    The puroposes of the present study were to develop the Multidimensional Ego Identity Scale (MEIS) and to examine the structure of the sense of identity in adolescents. 4 components of ego identity derived from Erikson's descriptions were hypothesized: (1) Self-Sameness, Continuity; (2) Self Identity; (3) Interpersonal Identity; and (4) Psychosocial Identity. The 20-item MEIS was completed by 390 university students (153 men, and 237 women) 18-22 years old, mean age 19.6, from two universities. Factor analysis yielded 4 factors which corresponded with the hypothesized 4 components. High reliability of the MEIS was confirmed by results of measures of internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and stability of factor structure. Concurrent validity, convergent validity, and discriminant validity of the MEIS were assessed by correlational analysis and factor analysis. In addition, construct validity was examined from a developmental perspective. The results showed that the MEIS had high reliability and validity, and that adolescents' sense of identity consists of the hypothesized 4-component structure.

    This study examined the relationship between sense of basic trust and time perspective in adolescence, from the viewpoint of Erikson's epigenetic developmental theory. Factor analysis was perfomed on all items of a Sense of Basic Trust Scale, Hopelessness Scale, and Experiential Time Perspective Scale. This yielded 4 factors : Hopelessnes-Hopefulness, Basic Trust and Time Continuity, Certainty about the Present and the Future, and Sense of Interpersonal Trust. The Basic Trust and Time Continuity Factor indicated a close relation between basic trust and self-continuity from past to present. Sense of interpersonal trust was less related to time perspective than sense of basic trust. This suggests that there is a conceptual difference between sense of basic trust and sense of interpersonal trust. Next, a covariance structure analysis was carried out to exmine the hypothesis that Basic Trust and Time Continuity influence Hopelessness and Certainty about the Future. The results showed that Basic Trust and Time Continuity influence Hopelessness, and that Hopelessness and Certainty about the Future influence each other.

  • 青年期における自我同一性と対人恐怖的心性

    This study examined the relationship between ego identity and anthropophobic tendency in adolescence from the point of view of individual-relational self conflict. Individual-relational self conflict means the conflict between individual self and relational self in Japanese socio-cultural environment based on the interdependent view of self in identity crisis. Identity crisis (stage V) with individual-relational self conflict would cause anthropophobic tendency, which would influence the problem of intimacy (stage VI) in identity crisis. And also autonomy (stage II) would influence both identity crisis and anthropophobic tendency. To examine this hypothesis, a covariance structure analysis was carried out. The results showed that all the causal coefficients were significant and the goodness of fit index of this model was high enough. These results suggested that identity crisis with individual-relational self conflict would cause anthropophobic tendency and this relation would be rooted in the sense of autonomy on stage II.

    本年度は,昨年度行った研究をまとめるとともに,より発展させた研究を行った。 谷(2001)の多次元自我同一性尺度(Multidimensional Ego Identity Scale ; MEIS)の下位尺度標準化得点を変数として用いて,k-means法によるクラスター分析を行った結果,安定した4クラスターが得られた。クラスター1は,「対他的同一性」が高い値であるものの,「対自的同一性」が低い値をとっているということが特徴的な群であった。このクラスターは,「自分がどうなりたいのか」という「対自的同一性」が,あいまいな群といえるため,「自己探索」群とした。クラスター2は,「対他的同一性」が低く,「対自的同一性」が高い値をとっているのが最も特徴的であり,同一性の対自次元が強調されており,対他次元が低いことから,「自己志向」群とした。クラスター3は,4下位尺度標準化得点すべてが高い群であり,「同一性形成」群とした。クラスター4は,4下位尺度標準化得点すべてが低い群であり,「同一性拡散」群とした。この研究結果は,日本心理学会第66回大会にて発表した。 また,「甘え」とアイデンティティの関連について再検討したところ,「対自的同一性」と「対他的同一性」において交互作用がみられ,相関のような直線形モデルによって検討することが適当でないことが示唆された。そこで,上述のクラスターに分けて,検討を行ったところ,「対自的同一性」と「対他的同一性」の得点が逆転している「自己志向」群と「自己探索」群において,「屈折的甘え」が高いレベルを示すという特徴がみられた。この研究結果は,日本教育心理学会第44回総会にて発表した。 さらに,日独の比較文化的研究を行ったところ,「対自的同一性」と「対他的同一性」の得点が逆転するのは,日本文化の所産であることが示唆されている。
