■ Paper- Abstract The present study aims to detect helium-3 in nickel-based metal nano-composites doped with zirconia, which exhibited anomalous heat generation when exposed to hydrogen gas at approximately 450 °C. Two complementary analytical techniques were employed: nuclear reaction analysis utilizing 1.4 MeV deuteron beams from a tandem accelerator, and thermal desorption spectrometry using a quadrupole mass spectrometer. Both methods successfully detected helium-3 in the samples. Given the extreme rarity of this isotope, its presence strongly suggests the occurrence of nuclear reactions within the nickel-containing materials. These findings lend support to the 4 hydrogen/tetrahedral symmetric condensate (4H/TSC) model, which uniquely predicts helium-3 as one of the primary reaction products.IOP Publishing, Jan. 2025, Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 64(1) (1), 017004 - 017004Scientific journal

A traveling wave direct energy converter (TWDEC) is expected to be used as an energy recovery device for fast protons produced during the D-3He nuclear fusion reaction. Some protons, however, are not fully decelerated and pass through the device. A secondary electron direct energy converter (SEDEC) was proposed as an additional device to recover the protons passing through a TWDEC. In our previous study, magnetic field was applied for efficient secondary electron (SE) collection, but the SEs were reflected close to the collector due to the magnetic mirror effect and the collection was degraded. Herein, a new arrangement of magnets is proposed to be set away from the collector, and experiments in various conditions are performed. An appropriate arrangement away from the collector resulted in the improvement of SE collection.

- Nuclear reaction analysis of Li isotopes in a Ni cathode used in electrolysis of aqueous Li_2SO_4 solution(MARITIME STUDIES, AND SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING)A successful application of the electrostatic accelerator, 1.7-MV Tandem Pelletron 5SDH-2, is demonstrated. Nuclear reaction analyses (NRA) using reactions ^7Li(p,2α) and ^6Li(d,2α) have been performed to reveal reliable isotopic abundance ratio of ^6Li/^7Li in Ni thin-film electrodes deposited on PTFE sheets which had been employed as the cathodes in electrolysis of aqueous Li_2SO_4 solution. Using it, fluctuations driven by energetic particles in the plasmas and plasma turbulence have been measured successfully. Although the direct interaction between the energetic-particle driven instability and the turbulence was not detected, novel phenomena, such as unique two-dimensional structures of the energetic-particle driven instability and the electric field formation by the energetic particles, have been found.
- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), National Institute for Fusion Science, 01 Apr. 2015 - 31 Mar. 2018Study on the heat transport in magnetically confined plasmas by simultaneous measurement of micro-scale turbulence and macro-scale fluctuationIn order to investigate the mechanism of the particle and heat transport in magnetically confined plasmas by measuring micro-scale turbulence and macro-scale fluctuations which may affect the turbulence, we have developed a position sensitive detector with high detection efficiency for the heavy ion beam probe on the Large Helical Device. It was confirmed that the developed detector could measure the beam position, sufficiently. However, the improvement in the detection efficiency was only 20 %, compared with the previous detector. Although the plasma experiment was performed under low density plasmas, the modulation of micro-scale turbulence by the macro-scale energetic-particle-driven GAM (EGAM) was observed. In addition, the spatial asymmetry and abrupt excitation of the GAM, which may affect the ion heat transport, were also found.

We can obtained transition conditions for the improved confinement mode in helical systems and we can successfully summarize the dependence between configuration of magnetic fields and the poloidal viscosity at a local maximum in Tohoku University Heliac and domestic helical systems. And we also proposed the evaluation method for the confinement performance of high energy particles (alpha particle) in advanced small helical devices and surveyed the condition for high energy particle injection by the hydrogen storage electrode. The experimental result suggests that hydrogen ions were accelerated by the hydrogen storage electrode biasing.

For the diagnostic of alpha particle loss to a first wall in a fusion reactor, we proposed and developed an alpha particle induced gamma ray spectroscopy. A pixel detector has been developed to acquire 4.44MeV gamma ray from the reaction of Be-alpha. We measured the gamma ray image successfully using it. Simultaneously a Ge detector detected the high resolution energy spectrum of 4.44 MeV gamma ray. We found that the spectrum has an angular dependence of the Doppler broadening strongly.

- 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 特定領域研究, 独立行政法人日本原子力研究開発機構, 2005 - 2005核反応ガンマ線測定法による燃焼プラズマの先進計測D-T核燃焼プラズマによって生成される高エネルギーα粒子の粒子束等はプラズマ自己加熱過程を理解する上で重要であり、その計測法の構築が必要である。本研究では燃料粒子である重水素粒子と高エネルギーα粒子との核反応,D(α,γ)^6Liによって生成するLi-6原子核の第2励起レベルの2.18MeVガンマ線の放出量から高エネルギーα粒子束や密度状態を測定する方法を検討し、その方法に必要な核的基礎データの取得を目指した。 神戸大学タンデム・バンデグラーフ型加速器(5SDH-2)によって2から4MeVに加速したアルファ粒子を重水素化ポリエチレンに照射し、エネルギー高分解能でかつ高検出効率(1.8keV,25%)なゲルマニウム半導体検出器で2.18MeVのガンマ線を測定した。 結果として入射α粒子の運動学的因子に相当するドップラー効果によるエネルギーシフトを伴ったLi-6原子核の第2励起レベルのガンマ線の光電ピークを明確に測定することに成功した。また2-4MeV間でのガンマ線生成率のエネルギー依存性は3MeV程度まで過去の測定値と良く一致するが、それ以上のエネルギーになると本研究で得られた生成率が過去の実験値に対して10倍から50倍程度であることが明らかとなった。このことからITERクラスの典型的なD-T核燃焼プラズマで生成する3.5MeVアルファ線からのガンマ線の生成量は10^<13>ガンマ線/秒になることが予測されることが分かり、提案した上記測定法によるD-T核燃焼ガンマ線の高エネルギーα粒子束の測定法に対する一定の見通しを得た。
- 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 若手研究(B), 2002 - 2004グラフト重合法を用いたポリマーのイオンビーム誘起ラジカルに関する研究前年度までの研究では,グラフト重合率が大きくなかったため,ポリエチレン中のラジカル密度を定量的に議論するには不十分であった.そこで,イオンビーム照射からグラフト重合反応開始までの試料移動時に確実に真空保持ができるシステムを構築した.さらに,グラフト重合反応時においても適宜真空引きできるようにした.こうすることで,ラジカルと酸素との結合が極力避けることができるので,数百パーセントのグラフト重合率が得られるようになった. シアノ基をアミドキシム化した後,硝酸銅に浸潤することで銅吸着し,加速器分析(RBS)で銅の深さ方向の密度分布を測定した.ここで,アミドキシム基は疎水性の官能基なので,その試料を硝酸銅水溶液に浸潤しても銅の移動が十分でないため,有限の実験時間では十分な吸着量が得られなかった.そこで,アクリロニトリルと親水基(カルボキシル基)を持つメタクリル酸との共重合を行った. ポリエチレン内部のラジカル数を議論するためには,グラフト重合反応におけるプロセスを把握しておかなければならない.そこで,グラフト重合率の時間進展について測定した.その結果,反応速度定数は高密度ポリエチレンより低密度ポリエチレンのほうが大きいことがわかった.これは,結晶質部にアクリロニトリルが進入しがたいことが原因である. また,イオンビーム照射時にポリエチレン内部に誘起する初期ラジカルの濃度と生長ラジカル濃度およびモノマー濃度を変数として,それらの消滅・生成に関するレート方程式を記述し,計算機を用いて計算した。このとき,グラフト,生長,再結合停止,幹とグラフト鎖の停止,二重結合の各速度定数を用いた。
