- In the previous papers, the analysis and the experiment were conducted on the vibration of the package with gaps. As a result, it has been clarified that the vibration of the contents is very different from the one applied to the package, because the vibration transmissibility is nonlinear due to gaps. However, it has not yet been investigated how this nonlinear gap induced vibration has effect on the durability of the contents. In this paper, the accumulated fatigue based on the Palmgren-Miner's rule is used in order to evaluate the vibration durability of the contents. The accumulated fatigue applied to the contents in the transportation environment and in the test one are calculated. As a result, it has been confirmed that gaps have effect on the results of evaluation, because these accumulated fatigue are different due to gaps. - The optimal cushioning design must be carried out to protect the products sufficiently from mechanical shock generated during transportation. The final step of the cushioning design procedure is the testing of the prototype package. The drop test has carried out as an evaluation of shock absorbing package. The free fall test is used the free fall drop test equipment. The test has a fundamental problem which cannot be simulated perfect drop perpendicularly to the dropping surface of the package. On the other hand, the controlled shock test is also carried out as a simulated drop test by using a mechanical shock test machine which is used in an evaluation of the mechanical shock fragility of product. The test has supposed the bold approximation of the packaging dynamic condition. We can select the drop test from the above two methods, but are shock responses of the product by the two test promised perfect equal? Many drop tests of the dummy packaged carton box which contains the transport environment recorder are carried out used by the free fall tester and the mechanical shock test machine. - Recently, corrugated fiberboard has been used for inner package materials as well as outer package by environmental demands. In case of using corrugated fiberboard as inner cushioning, the fiberboard structures which are cut and folded for fitting in the product shapes are very common. However, the cushioning design process of corrugated fiberboard structures has been carried out by trial and error. The cushioning design process of corrugated fiberboard structures seems to be difficult and complicated, because each cushioning structure has a different shape by the product. In this paper, the property of sleeve-structure corrugated fiberboard is discussed for an experimental model of a fundamental cushioning. And examining the cushioning properties of sleeve-structure fiberboards, it is clear that the level of acceleration would be predicted by checking the support length of the product and the existence of folded parts and shearing force. - The purpose of this research is to grasp the effect of the gaps between the contents and the cushioning materials on the vibration of the contents. In this paper, the experiment with the equipment simulated the package with gaps has been conducted in order to examine the effect. In the previous papers, the numerical investigation and the theoretical one were conducted on the effect of gaps on the vibration of the contents. As a result, it has been clarified that following two phenomena occur, because the vibration transmissibility is nonlinear due to gaps. One is that the vibration of the contents increases rapidly, when the vibration acceleration applied to the package is larger than one value (the critical input acceleration). The other is that the frequency range in which the vibration of the contents increases (the resonant frequency range) spreads. These phenomena have to be investigated experimentally, because these have great effect on the equivalence between a vibration test and a real transportation. - Recently, Corrugated Fiberboard Cushion is well used as package cushion instead of Expanded Plastic Material for environmental issue. But as Corrugated Fiberboard is made of paper, it is influenced by moisture around its atmosphere. Especially we need confirmation of safety for the package which uses paper material in long distance transport by ship. - The pallet load composed of carton boxes takes various stabilizers on distribution. The vibration tests can be taken as the way of evaluating the effect of the pallet load stabilizers. However, no confirming test protocols of the load stabilizing efficiency have been existed, because non-determinative motions are happened on the each box even if in the sinusoidal vibrating condition. First of all, the new reliability rate of the pallet load stability is proposed. The indoor falling down vibration tests of the pallet load strapped by the reusable belts are carried out to identify stabilizing effect. And the mathematical model by the distinct element method is produced to calculate the movement of the pallet load falling down in vibration. - A variety of pallet-load stabilizers can be available. The stretch and shrink wrapping are the most commonly used as the stabilizing materials, but the reusable strapping stabilizers should be ofthen used gradually by an ecological demand. Although no confirming test protocols of the load stabilizing efficiency have been existed. In this paper, the new evaluation method of the pallet-load slipping down vibration tests is proposed. The indoor falling down vibration tests of the pallet load are carried out. As the results, it is observed that even if one dimensional vertical vibration in the natural frequency are induced complex movements. - Most products that are made in a factory are delivered to a consumer through transportation system with ships, airplanes or trucks. So, we need to be concerned with the mechanical shock encountered due to Manhandling, Warehouse handling, Vehicle impacts and so on. An evaluation method for damage boundary curve on products against mechanical shock (DBC evaluation test) was previously proposed. In order to evaluate the reliability of products, we introduced the idea of probability into the DBC evalation test and developed the probability based evaluation method for damage boundary curve on products against mechanical shock (P-DBC evaluation test). - The parcel receives strong shock load when it is put into a box pallet by a loading operator. The correlation between the shock load of a parcel and the working intensity of a loading operator is confirmed by the laboratory experiments. The biomechanic evaluations are also carried out. The shock accelerations of a parcel and the electromyograms of subjects are measured. The obtained results are summarized as follows. (1) When the parcel is loaded into far position in a box pallet from a palletizing operator, the working intensity of a operator is high and heavy shock acceleration occurs, because a loading operator throws the parcel to a pallet. - Heavy shock acceleration occurs when the parcels are loaded by men. We carried out the laboratory experiments of loading work in a distribution center. The obtained results are summarized as follows. (1) Vertical shocks are bigger than horizontal shocks. (2) The principal direction of the horizontal shock is parallel to the back wall of a roll box pallet. (3) The parcel receives strong shock when it is put into far position in a pallet from the loading operator. (4) The shock absorbing materials should be laid on steel bottom of a pallet. - There are some countermeasures against shifting cargo. But the quantitative evaluation of cargo motions in the oscillating force and the effect of the countermeasures are not cleared. This paper deals with the characteristics of pull down of palletized cargo in the oscillating force, for example, earthquake or oscillation in transportation process. Some basic physical models using actual palletized corrugated container are carried out. A palletized container shows complex movements in six degree of freedom under one dimensional horizontal inertia force. A new shifting parameter of the palletized cargo is proposed to indicate the quantitative displacement of shifting. - The serious damages of cargo in warehouse were happened by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. There are some countermeasures against shifting cargo. But the quantitative effect of them is not clear by earthquake. This paper deals with the slip of an object on oscillating floor as the first step of a basic research on prevention of pull down cargo by earthquake. The dynamical friction factors of some materials are varied with slip velocity in the physical model. The phenomenon is in contrast to the ideal Coulomb's friction law. - Substantiation of the Problems on Tests for Mechanical-Shock Fragility of Products by ExperimentsIn the previous study of shock response analysis for linear and nonlinear models representing products, we found the possibility of two kinds of strange phenomena. These phenomena lead to overestimation in the mechanical-shock fragility test. In order to verify these problems as stated above (in the mechanical-shock fragility tests, ex. JIS Z 0119 and ASTM D 3332), we conducted the shock experiments with a real product and an experimental model (which represent the situation that products are stacked). As a result of that, we confirmed that there is a possibility that these phenomena may occur in mechanical-shock fragility tests. The outline of these phenomena is as follows: (1) the critical acceleration of products may depend upon the velocity change of the shock pulse in the critical acceleration test. (The dependency of the critical acceleration on velocity change) (2) there is a possibility that the products may be more fragile reversely when a certain shock pulse with a lower acceleration is applied.
