    I am involved in research and education in ecology and entomology. My interests centre on insects and their interactions with a wide range of organisms, including plants, fungi, slime moulds, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. I currently focus primarily on the study of anti-predator defences in insects.

    本年度は、(1)チョウ目幼虫に似た虫えいによる視覚的防衛の検証、(2)植物の寄生擬態候補の探索、(3)その他を行った。 (1)虫えいを誘導する昆虫には、寄主植物に円筒形でチョウ目幼虫のように見える虫えい（ミザクラハベリフクロフシ、トサカフシなど）を形成させる種がある。これが視覚的に幼虫のように見せることにより、他の植食性昆虫による虫えいやその周辺部位への食害を防ぐ効果があるのではないかという仮説を考えた。これを検証するために、緑地で春季にサクラの枝に、幼虫の形にした粘土（ダミー幼虫）を1つずつ配置した。また、粘土を配置しないコントロールも設定した。7日後に植食を評価したが、ダミー幼虫により植食が減少する傾向は認められなかった。虫えいは大量に集中的に形成される場合が多いので、今後はダミー幼虫の密度を増やした実験が必要である。 (2)近畿地方と山梨県で、植物の部位が昆虫に利用されているように見せかける擬態の候補を調査した。芽の柔毛による菌感染擬態や茎にカイガラムシ、アブラムシなどが寄生しているように見える植物があり、それらは寄生擬態の候補と考えられた。すでに利用、寄生されている植物は、誘導防衛が発達していたり、天敵が誘引されていたり、食物の質・量が低下するからである。この他、葉の形が有毒植物に似る植物が観察され、植物において広く視覚的な防御が存在する可能性が示唆された。 (3)この他、野外調査の副産物として、本来、クモバチ媒であるパインップルリリーにモリチャバネゴキブリが訪花して送粉することを記録した。
