- ABSTRACT Stainless steel tubes and pipes are vital in dairy processing but require frequent cleaning, leading to notable energy consumption and environmental impact. This study delves into the cleanability of wet milk deposits at temperatures of 40°C and 60°C on an exceptionally smooth internal surface achieved through magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF) with a surface roughness of 0.01 μm Ra. We compare this surface with non‐MAF tubes having surface roughness values of 0.37 and 3.7 μm Ra. To assess cleaning effectiveness, the study measured milk and protein residue removal after deposition and cleaning processes, employing a cleaning solution flow pattern at Reynolds numbers (Re) of 659–1318. Results indicate that smoother surfaces, particularly those with roughness values of 0.01 and 0.37 μm Ra, significantly enhance cleanability at 40°C. This leads to reductions (p < 0.05) of 34.5% and 22.6% for milk deposits and 27.9% and 22.7% for protein deposits, respectively, compared to tube surfaces with a roughness level of 3.7 μm Ra. These findings underscore the potential of highly smooth surfaces to improve cleanability below protein denaturation temperatures. Furthermore, the MAF tube with a roughness of 0.01 μm Ra exhibited nonsignificant reductions of 15.4% and 6.7% compared to the 0.37 μm Ra surface. The smoothing effect on the cleanability of milk and protein deposits was enhanced compared with the higher temperature condition. By addressing the challenges of routine cleaning, the study highlights MAF as a technology that optimizes surface quality in dairy processing equipment, addressing environmental and energy‐related concerns.Wiley, Apr. 2025, Journal of Food Process Engineering, 48(4) (4), English[Refereed]Scientific journal

- Abstract Liquid digestate can be used to provide nutrients for microalgae cultivation but the medium needs to be clear and colorless. The aim of this work was to use liquid digestate from coffee waste biomass to produce a light-permeable medium for microalgae cultivation. A boron-doped diamond anode was applied for electrochemical decolorization of the digestate. The electrochemical oxidation process reduced the platinum-cobalt color value by up to 97% and the chemical oxygen demand by 84.1%. After electrochemical oxidation, 87.4% of the ammonium nitrogen (NH4-N) was retained. Decolorization of the spent coffee grounds liquid digestate was compared with that of dairy cow manure liquid digestate. It took 90 min longer to fully decolorize the spent coffee grounds liquid digestate compared with the dairy cow manure liquid digestate. The boron-doped diamond anode performed better in the decolorization than Ti/IrO2 and Ti/Pt anodes. The effects of the initial Fe2+ concentration and current on the electrochemical oxidation process were also evaluated. Increasing the initial Fe2+ concentration enhanced the Fenton reaction and chemical oxygen demand removal. A higher current enhanced the electrochemical decolorization process and side reactions. Electrochemical oxidation using a boron-doped diamond anode is a promising method for producing an appropriate medium for microalgae cultivation because it promotes decolorization of liquid digestate and retains most of the NH4-N.Springer Science and Business Media LLC, Mar. 2024, International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology[Refereed]Scientific journal

- Abstract The global shift from a fossil fuel-based to an electrical-based society is commonly viewed as an ecological improvement. However, the electrical power industry is a major source of carbon dioxide emissions, and incorporating renewable energy can still negatively impact the environment. Despite rising research in renewable energy, the impact of renewable energy consumption on the environment is poorly known. Here, we review the integration of renewable energies into the electricity sector from social, environmental, and economic perspectives. We found that implementing solar photovoltaic, battery storage, wind, hydropower, and bioenergy can provide 504,000 jobs in 2030 and 4.18 million jobs in 2050. For desalinization, photovoltaic/wind/battery storage systems supported by a diesel generator can reduce the cost of water production by 69% and adverse environmental effects by 90%, compared to full fossil fuel systems. The potential of carbon emission reduction increases with the percentage of renewable energy sources utilized. The photovoltaic/wind/hydroelectric system is the most effective in addressing climate change, producing a 2.11–5.46% increase in power generation and a 3.74–71.61% guarantee in share ratios. - Abstract New technologies, systems, societal organization and policies for energy saving are urgently needed in the context of accelerated climate change, the Ukraine conflict and the past coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. For instance, concerns about market and policy responses that could lead to new lock-ins, such as investing in liquefied natural gas infrastructure and using all available fossil fuels to compensate for Russian gas supply cuts, may hinder decarbonization efforts. Here we review energy-saving solutions with a focus on the actual energy crisis, green alternatives to fossil fuel heating, energy saving in buildings and transportation, artificial intelligence for sustainable energy, and implications for the environment and society. Green alternatives include biomass boilers and stoves, hybrid heat pumps, geothermal heating, solar thermal systems, solar photovoltaics systems into electric boilers, compressed natural gas and hydrogen. We also detail case studies in Germany which is planning a 100% renewable energy switch by 2050 and developing the storage of compressed air in China, with emphasis on technical and economic aspects. The global energy consumption in 2020 was 30.01% for the industry, 26.18% for transport, and 22.08% for residential sectors. 10–40% of energy consumption can be reduced using renewable energy sources, passive design strategies, smart grid analytics, energy-efficient building systems, and intelligent energy monitoring. Electric vehicles offer the highest cost-per-kilometer reduction of 75% and the lowest energy loss of 33%, yet battery-related issues, cost, and weight are challenging. 5–30% of energy can be saved using automated and networked vehicles. Artificial intelligence shows a huge potential in energy saving by improving weather forecasting and machine maintenance and enabling connectivity across homes, workplaces, and transportation. For instance, 18.97–42.60% of energy consumption can be reduced in buildings through deep neural networking. In the electricity sector, artificial intelligence can automate power generation, distribution, and transmission operations, balance the grid without human intervention, enable lightning-speed trading and arbitrage decisions at scale, and eliminate the need for manual adjustments by end-users.Springer Science and Business Media LLC, Mar. 2023, Environmental Chemistry Letters, English[Refereed]Scientific journal

- Antibiotic-resistant bacteria remain a serious public health threat. In order to determine the percentage of antibiotic-resistant and -tolerant Pseudomonas aeruginosa cells present and to provide a more detailed infection risk of bacteria present in the environment, an isolation method using a combination of 41 °C culture and specific primers was established to evaluate P. aeruginosa in the environment. The 50 strains were randomly selected among 110 isolated from the river. The results of antibiotic susceptibility evaluation showed that only 4% of environmental strains were classified as antibiotic-resistant, while 35.7% of clinical strains isolated in the same area were antibiotic-resistant, indicating a clear difference between environmental and clinical strains. However, the percentage of antibiotic-tolerance, an indicator of potential resistance risk for strains that have not become resistant, was 78.8% for clinical strains and 90% for environmental strains, suggesting that P. aeruginosa, a known cause of nosocomial infections, has a high rate of antibiotic-tolerance even in environmentally derived strains. It suggested that the rate of antibiotic-tolerance is not elicited by the presence or absence of antimicrobial exposure. - Additives, such as iron oxides, have been used in anaerobic digestion (AD) to promote direct interspecies electron transfer and to boost methane yield. However, the function of additives in the AD of antibiotic-contaminated organic wastes remained unclear. In this study, the effects of ferric hydroxide and (semi) conductive iron oxides, namely hematite and magnetite, on the AD of oxytetracycline (OTC)-contaminated dairy manure were investigated. Each iron oxide was assigned to a set of experiment where 0.25 g/L of OTC was added to 1 L batch digesters, while the concentration of iron oxide was varied from 0.08 to 0.34 g/L. Generally, magnetite was the most effective iron oxide to enhance methane yield in OTC-free dairy manure followed by ferric hydroxide and hematite. However, when the manure was contaminated with OTC, higher methane yield was observed in ferric hydroxide followed by hematite, while the lowest was with magnetite. In all digesters, the highest methane yield was observed with ferric hydroxide at 0.08 g/L, which was 1.43-fold of that with OTC and without iron oxides. The kinetic studies of methane yield demonstrated that the addition of iron oxides in the AD of OTC-contaminated dairy manure did not shorten the lag phase period despite the increase of methane yield. Thus, the increase of methane yield with ferric hydroxide was attributed to the possible formation of Fe-OTC complex, which attenuated the inhibition of OTC. - This study was aimed to investigate the mechanisms of oxytetracycline (OTC) and chlortetracycline (CTC) inhibition in anaerobic digestion (AD) using four kinetic models. The results showed that the inhibition rate of OTC was faster than CTC at OTC and CTC between 0.04 and 1.28 g/L. Hydrolysis rate constant was linearly and positively correlated with OTC and increased from 0.172 to 0.193 d-1, 0.164 to 0.179 d-1 and 0.251 to 0.285 d-1 using first-order kinetic, Fitzhugh and Cone models, respectively, while the maximum specific methane production rate was linearly and negatively correlated with CTC and decreased from 0.028 to 0.016 L/gVS. Cone model was found to give the most satisfactory fitting results followed in descending order by first-order kinetic, Fitzhugh and modified Gompertz models. - The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of solid-liquid separation on anaerobic digestion of dairy manure in semi-continuous stirred tank reactors. Reactors fed with liquid fraction of dairy manure (screened liquid manure) were kept in water baths at mesophilic (Run 1) and thermophilic (Run 3) temperatures, respectively, while reactors fed with water diluted manure and kept at mesophilic (Run 2) and thermophilic (Run 4) temperatures as control reactors. The performances of reactors were compared in terms of biogas and methane production, and digestate characteristics. The methane yields obtained from screened manure were higher than those from diluted manure at both mesophilic and thermophilic temperatures, while the highest methane yield was 185 L/kg VSadded under thermophilic temperature. Solid-liquid separation also had improved the effect on digestate fertilizer characteristics. Among four digestates from reactors, the highest contents of nutrients, N (4.12 g/kg) and P (2.36 g/kg) were found in Run 3, while the highest content of K (3.42 g/kg) was found in Run 1. - This paper presents the recent attention in scientific studies and development of electrochemical processes. Electrochemical technology has contributed significantly to the purification of water for better human health and aquatic life forms. In this study, we emphasize the developmental trends of electrochemical technologies, their applications, and recent developments in the context of water and wastewater treatments. Recent studies have made great advances in investigating and optimizing advanced electrochemical oxidation processes in treatment of various organic pollutants, reduction of halogenated contaminants, and disinfection of microorganisms. Besides, electrochemical oxidation processes have been combined with other treatment methods to enable their practical application. Excellent electro-catalytic treatment of contaminant and their by-products was achieved through the application of mixed metal oxides (PbO2, SnO2, Ti/RuO2, etc.), Pt, and boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes. Several studies have focused on selective removal of trace pollutants in a complex matrix. These studies have shown the possibility of removing target pollutants with relatively low energy consumption. - This paper presented a potential use of zero-valent iron (ZVI) powder for the reduction and retardation of nitrate in soil columns under saturated and unsaturated flow conditions. Uniform mixture ratios of ZVI powder with soil were of concern in the range of 30% by weight of soil in order to investigate the change of mobility and reduction of nitrate. As a comparison, layered formations of ZVI powder within soils were also comprised with a certain height, which corresponded to a prescribed weight of ZVI powder. Temporal moment approaches allowed to identify the degradation rate constant and retardation factor based on experimental breakthrough curves of nitrate leachate and to quantify mass recovery fractions associated with NO3-N and NH4-N. The results showed that the increase of the amount of ZVI powder resulted in the increase of the degradation rate constant and retardation factor values up to 1.3 per hour and 1.7, respectively. The decrease of NO3-N and the increase of NH4-N were observed and were significant under saturated conditions due to the corrosion. - Treatment of dairy milking parlour wastewater using the Magnetic Activated Sludge (MAS) process was investigated. The experiment was carried out for 150 days without withdrawal of excess sludge and without addition of ferromagnetic powder. During the experimental period, three different CODcr loading rate; 527.7mg/l/d, 852.0mg/l/d and 1541.9mg/l/d for hydraulic retention times of 3 days, 2 days and 1 day were used, respectively. The average CODcr removal efficiency of 93% was maintained in the experimenteal period. - 畜産業において,動物用抗菌剤(抗生物質および合成抗菌薬)は,家畜の疾病治療および成長促進を目的として広く使用されている。2003年の統計によれば,日本における抗生物質の使用量は年間2,000tを超え,その中でも動物用医薬品および飼料添加物としての利用が約1,100tと推定されている。家畜に投与された動物用抗菌剤の一部は代謝分解されるものの,大部分は糞尿や畜産物を経由して体外に排出される。近年,微量化学物質の分析技術の向上により,環境中の医薬品の関心が高まっている。日本においても,水環境中から医薬品成分の検出に関する報告が相次いでいる。特に,動物用抗菌剤は畜産業が盛んな地域や畜産施設周辺の河川水から検出されている(表1)。動物用抗菌剤の使用は家畜の健康維持と生産性向上に貢献している。しかし,これらのベネフィットと共に,薬剤耐性菌の増加を引き起こすリスクも増加する。特に,家畜に対し動物用抗菌剤を飼料添加物として長期間にわたって投与すると,家畜体内の各種細菌が耐性を獲得する機会が増加する。これら薬剤耐性菌の存在は家畜の疾病治療を困難にするだけでなく,薬剤耐性遺伝子は畜産物や周辺環境を通じてヒトへの伝播も指摘されている。発生した耐性遺伝子は,細菌の種類を超えて増加し,様々な環境を渡り歩いて拡散することから,増殖可能な二次的化学汚染とみなすことができる。代謝分解されなかった動物用抗菌剤や投与した家畜体内で発現した薬剤耐性菌は,糞尿に残留している可能性が高い。一般に家畜糞尿は資源として利活用されることが望ましく,堆肥化に加え嫌気性消化によるエネルギーの回収や発酵残渣の液肥利用が資源化手法として挙げられる。環境汚染の防止や糞尿資源の安全性確保のためには,糞尿由来の動物用抗菌剤に関連するリスク低減手法の確立が重要な課題となる。嫌気性消化は,家畜糞尿処理と同時にエネルギー回収ができる点で畜産農家にメリットがあり,フルスケールのバイオガスプラントの普及が進んでいる。本稿では,嫌気性消化による薬剤耐性菌のリスク低減と残留薬剤の分解について報告する。Lead, Japanese Society of Soil Microbiology, 2012, 土と微生物, 66(2) (2), 47 - 50, Japanese[Invited]Introduction scientific journal

- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Hiroshima University, 01 Apr. 2021 - 31 Mar. 2024An innovative strategy for fertilization of oligotrophic seas with land-ocean linkages using a terrestrial anaerobic digestate pellet現在,一部しか利活用先が開拓されていないメタン発酵で副生する消化液の新たな有効利用方法を開拓できればバイオガス発電の普及が容易となる。また,近年の貧栄養化に伴う漁業生産量の低下を回復させることも重要な課題である。そのため,畜産廃棄物由来のメタン発酵消化液をバインダーで固め,貧栄養化海域に栄養塩を溶出させ肥沃化を達成するための海洋肥沃化ペレットを開発する。2021年度の実績は以下の通りである。 (1)海洋肥沃化ペレットの作製に好適な消化液の作製では,メタンガス収率が高く,かつ海洋肥沃化ペレット作製に好適な栄養塩濃度が高い消化液が生成されるメタン発酵条件のパラメーターを決定することを目的とした。畜産廃棄物などを基質に嫌気条件下で発酵試験を行うと消化液中の溶存態無機窒素は主としてアンモニア態窒素であった。アンモニア態窒素は微細藻類の増殖にとって必要であるが,ワカメやノリの色落ちを防ぐためには,消化液中の硝酸態窒素濃度も上昇させる必要がある。今後,消化液の硝酸態窒素濃度を上昇させるための発酵条件を検討する。消化液中のリン濃度は,消化液のpHを6に低下させると上昇した。 (2)海洋肥沃化ペレットの作製および,海洋肥沃化ペレットからの栄養塩の溶出挙動の把握では,消化液を固化させてペレットを成型するため,現場使用に耐えうる強度が得られるセメントをバインダーとして海洋肥沃化ペレットを作製した。海洋肥沃化ペレットから人工海水への栄養塩溶出量をバッチ法にて評価したところ,主たる溶存無機窒素はアンモニア態窒素で,62 ug-N/g溶出,リンについては,リン酸態リンが6 ug-P/g溶出した。 (3)2022年度の本実験に向けて海洋肥沃化ペレットによる微細藻類の増殖を評価するため, f/2培地で底生微細藻Nitzschiaの培養方法の最適化,および大型水槽でワカメを培養するための予備実験を行った。

- 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 基盤研究(B), 神戸大学, 01 Apr. 2020 - 31 Mar. 2023畜産環境における耐性菌パンデミック防御のための抗菌剤磁気分離と嫌気性消化への展開検討項目1: 畜産廃水等の液相に残留する抗生物質の磁気分離除去法の確立のため,乳牛糞尿の固液分離後の液分を対象とし,抗生物質の磁気フィルタによる分離と無害化プロセスに接続するための磁気フィルタからの回収について検討した。電気化学凝集反応を用いた抗生物質への磁気シーディング法において,電流密度の影響は小さい一方で,投入電気量が除去率に影響することを明らかにした。磁気フィルタからの分離物回収手法の開発のため,マグネタイトを模擬物質として磁気力による分離と回収試験を実施した。対象物を分離後,脱磁操作が回収率向上に寄与することを示すとともに,磁気フィルタによる分離の諸条件が回収率に影響することを明らかにした。 検討項目2: メタン発酵による乳牛糞尿に残留する抗生物質耐性菌低減を目的として,嫌気性消化プロセスにおける酸生成過程とメタン生成過程における抗生物質耐性菌の消長について,乳牛糞尿を用いた2段階バッチ試験によって検討した。セファゾリンを添加した場合,酸生成過程においてVFA蓄積を招き,結果として耐性菌の消長に影響を与えた。メタン生成過程は,薬剤耐性菌低減の主たるフェーズであることが明らかになった。 検討項目3: 生物処理の前処理として、排水中の抗生物質を除去することが、いくつかの報告で示されている。しかし、微生物群集構造、排水処理性能、抗生物質耐性菌の出現などを引き起こさない最小限の抗生物質濃度が明らかでないため、前処理のガイドライン値は明らかにされていない。そこで本研究では、微生物群集構造および排水処理性能に影響を与えない最小限の抗生物質濃度を求めるため、排水処理性能および微生物群集の動的変化を解析した。得られた結果より,前処理時のLVXのガイドライン値として0.5 mg-LVX/L以下に設定することが提案できると考えられた。
- 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 特別研究員奨励費, 神戸大学, 25 Apr. 2019 - 31 Mar. 2021金属粒子を援用した嫌気性消化:家畜糞尿残留抗生物質の分解畜産業で用いられる抗菌剤の中で,テトラサイクリン系抗生物質は抗菌スペクトルが広いこともあり使用量が多い抗菌剤のひとつである。テトラサイクリン系抗生物質は鉄イオンのような金属イオンと結合しやすいという性質を持つ。この特異的な性質を環境技術に応用した。本研究において,水酸化第二鉄,ヘマタイトそしてマグネタイトといった酸化鉄が,抗生物質を含む乳牛ふん尿の嫌気性消化に及ぼす影響を検討した。研究の目的は、得られたデータから動力学的モデルを用いて解析し,抗生物質を含む家畜ふん尿の嫌気性消化における鉄-抗生物質錯体形成の可能性を検討した。 実験の結果,オキシテトラサイクリンやクロルテトラサイクリンなどの抗生物質は嫌気性消化を“抑制された”定常状態に作用させ,発酵槽内のpHやメタン濃度に大きな変化はなかったものの,メタン生成が減少することが観察された。 また,嫌気性消化の基質に一定濃度の抗生物質が存在すると,メタン生成が遅滞し,コーンモデルがメタン生成をシミュレートするのに最も適切なモデルであることを明らかにした。 抗生物質が残留する条件において,直接的な電子移動メディエータとしてヘマタイトおよびマグネタイトのような酸化鉄の役割は、抗生物質と錯体の形成よりも優先されないことが示唆された。 すなわち嫌気性プロセスにおいて,水酸化第二鉄はヘマタイトおよびマグネタイトよりも抗生物質阻害に有効であると結論付けた。 これらの研究成果は,テトラサイクリン系抗生物質のような金属イオンと錯体を形成する動物用抗菌剤が家畜糞尿に残留する場合に,水酸化第二鉄を用いたメタン発酵プロセスが,動物用抗菌剤の拡散防止に寄与することを示唆するものである。

Not only chlortetracycline and tylosin were decreased significantly by anaerobic digestion, but also cefazolin-resistant bacteria in cow manure, while Bacillus, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter had tendencies to survive during mesophilic digestion. These results suggested that mesophilic digestate needs further sanitary treatment prior to use as liquid fertilizer. On the other hand, hardly-degradable antimicrobials could be degraded efficiently by electro-oxidation treatment, particularly tetracyclines and cefems.

In this work, we discussed the cleanability of milk proteins on a highly-smoothed inner surface prepared by magnetic field-assisted finishing (MAF). Data showed that the smoothly finished inner surface (Ra=0.037 um) of stainless steel tubes significantly improved the cleanability of milk residues. The effect of surface roughness was relatively low on the cleanability of milk proteins. The results may indicate that the cleanability of non-protein components of milk residue is affected by surface roughness. MAF may improve the safety of dairy handling and processing equipment.

A few equipment were distributed to the researchers who are interested in magnetic separation application for water treatment. By acceleration of bench scale experimental step, 3 cases were able to progress to pilot scale stage. By using the standard equipment, some advanced magnetic activated sludge process, milking parlor wastewater treatment, biodegradation of animal antibiotics, biodegradation of 1,4 dioxane, purification of methane digestive juice, and so on were investigated, as a results, new processes were proposed. International forum of magnetic force control, summer seminar of magnetic force control and magnetic application, and so on were held every year and helped networking between researchers of magnetic application for water treatment.

The profiles of monounsaturated fatty acids affecting beef taste and ω-3, -6 polyunsaturated fatty acids related to health attributes were evaluated by FTIRmeasurement. Relationship between the scores of sensory test of beef and fatty acid composition was modeled by artificial neural networks and the capability of FTIR spectroscopy for estimating beef taste such as tenderness and flavor was suggested.

We assumed the manure from dairy cows injected with veterinary antibiotics, and focused on the survival of antibiotic resistant bacteria during anaerobic digestion, and electrochemical inactivation of antibiotic resistant bacteria in anaerobically digested slurry. Results with manure samples from three different farms showed a similar trend that numbers of antibiotic-resistant bacteria decreased after the anaerobic digestion except for specific antibiotics. The electrochemical disinfection process decreased numbers of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the anaerobically digested slurry. The result indicates that the batch mesophilic anaerobic digestion and electrochemical process can reduce relative risks of antibiotic-resistance bacteria in livestock manure.

Because of dispersion of livestock wastes, the releases of antibiotics into aquatic environment have become increasing. In this study, selective separation of veterinary antibiotics for dairy wastewater treatment by magnetic force was investigated. Electrochemical magnetic seeding using an iron anode was applied to enhance differences of magnetic susceptibility between antibiotics and water for selective separation. The result shows that the magnetic separation with electrochemical magnetic seeding is promising method for selective removal of the veterinary antibiotics from dairy wastewater.Competitive research funding

In this process, magnetic powder must be adsorbed on microorganisms for applying magnetic separation. A simple method for desorption of magnetic powder from microorganisms using magnetic traction was proposed in this research. Also, basic strategy of designing magnetic separators using permanent magnet for magnetic activated sludge and innovative processes for dye wastewater, high-nitrogen wastewater, stock raising wastewater purification, and advanced sewage purification were proposed in this research.
- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Kobe University, 2007 - 2009Fatty acid compositions of black Wagyu beef which indicate the superiority in taste, was investigated in this study and, a non-destructive measurement method to determine the compositions of fatty acids was developed by using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy. The major fatty acid components of the fat were found to be oleic acid (18:1) and palmitic acid (16:0) of which contents ranged from 45 to 48% and 24 to 28%, respectively. Oleic acid providing good flavor became larger in the order of intra-muscular, inter-muscular and subcutaneous fats. The ATR-FTIR method could accurately predict the content of mono-unsaturated fatty acid of the extracted fat, which demonstrated the effectiveness of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy for the quality evaluation of beef.Competitive research funding
- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B), Kobe University, 2007 - 2008, Principal investigator畜産施設からの排水処理のために、小規模分散型処理が可能な電気化学的手法による水質浄化法の検討を行った。特に、排出量の多いとされる搾乳施設(ミルキングパーラ)排水を想定し、パーラ排水だけではなく、混入の可能性がある廃棄乳および動物用抗菌剤といった生物難分解成分に対し、金属酸化物アノードを用いた電解酸化法の適用可能性について検討した。廃棄乳に含有する乳脂肪、ラクトース、カゼインの各成分に対して、陽極材料(Ti/PbO_2,DSA)および支持電解質の影響を調べた。ラクトースは全般に分解性が良好であったのに対し、カゼインの分解速度はいずれの電解条件においてもやや低い傾向にあった。糞尿や洗浄剤を含むパーラ排水と比較すると、電気化学的手法は特に廃棄乳の分解に優れていることから、実際の酪農施設においては両者を混合することなく分別回収し、電解酸化処理を行うことが望ましいことが示唆された。動物用抗菌剤については、国内において販売量が多いテトラサイクリン系抗生物質および酪農において頻繁に使用されているセフェム系抗生物質の分解特性について検討した。いずれの抗生物質も電解酸化処理による分解性は良好であった。電気化学反応による抗生物質の分解処理においては、クロマトグラフィによる対象物質の定量分析に加えて、何らかのバイオアッセイを併用し抗菌性の抑止と無害化について評価する必要があると考えられた。Competitive research funding
- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (A), Utsunomiya University, 2006 - 2008Magnetic Activated Sludge Process-New Development of Biological Wastewater Treatment Utilizing Magnetic Separation磁気分離を用いた新しい活性汚泥法である磁化活性汚泥法についてパイロットプラントを用いた実証研究が行なわれ、維持管理が容易で有機物と窒素の除去も同時に行なう水処理を長期間余剰汚泥の引抜きなしで運転できることを確かめた。汚泥の磁気分離では汚泥濃縮率が重要な因子となることが示された。また磁化活性汚泥は排水成分の大幅な変動に対して多様な微生物を保持できるため高い適応性を示すことがわかった。

It is confirmed that the magnetism is obtained on the anaerobic digestion and methane bacteria by the addition of magnetite. Metnosarcina genus which is the aggregate of spherical bacteria was tangled by the magnetite. It is also confirmed that the neodymium magnetite of 350mT is able to handle the phenomena. It is suggested by the fact that the method of anaerobic digestion process for livestock biomass assisted by magnetic force from the addition of magnetite contributes the maintaining of fungus body.

The digested effluent sample containing with suspended solids was pretreated by filtration for the electrochemical experiment. The influence of direct anodic oxidation and indirect oxidation was evaluated through the use of dimensionally stable anode (DSA) and Ti/PbO2 as anode. The decreasing rate of chemical oxygen demand (COD) was higher at lead dioxide coated titanium (Ti/PbO2) electrode than at DSA, however the DSA was preferred anode for the decrease of ammonium nitrogen (NH4-N) due to the control of ammonium nitrate (NO3-N) accumulation. The results showed that the filtration of suspended solids as a pretreatment and addition of NaCl could improve the whole removing efficiency of NH4-N in the digested effluent on electrochemical oxidation.
- 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費補助金/若手研究(B), 若手研究(B), 2006 - 2006, Principal investigator畜産業から排出される糞尿や廃水が指摘されている。ミルキングパーラから排出される廃水は畜産業から排出されている代表的なものであり、高濃度のリン、CODそしてアンモニア性窒素が含まれているが、適切な処理がされずに自然環境へ放出されている場合がある。廃水処理は生物学的手法が一般的であるが、維持管理の問題や低温で微生物活性が低下する点から、特に北海道のような寒冷地の農畜産地城での適用は制約が多い。本研究では、ミルキングパーラの廃水処理として、有機物およびリン除去を目的とする電解凝集法と、電気化学的に酸化剤を生成させることによって、廃水に含まれる窒素および有機成分を分解する方法である電解酸化法の確立を目指すものである。 1.電解凝集法において、鉄電極を用いた電気分解条件の検討をおこなった。一定の電荷を投入すると、富栄養化の原因物質であるリンの効果的な凝集除去が可能であることを示した。 2.電解酸化法において、廃棄乳を含むパーラー廃水の分解特性について反応プロセスを分離させた上で分解効率の向上について検討をおこなった。廃棄乳を想定した模擬牛乳廃水に対してはDSAを用いた場合電極近傍での反応が主であることが示唆された。一方、廃棄乳を殆ど含まない糞尿および洗浄水で主に構成されるパーラー廃水に対しては、電解生成させた次亜塩素酸が酸化剤として効果的であることは判明した。以上の結果から、両者を組み合わせることによって、富栄養化の原因物質である窒素、有機成分およびリンを物理化学的手法で浄化できることが示唆された。Competitive research funding
- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, 2005 - 2006Studies on coagulation and decomposition of livestock wastewater with the use of electrochemical oxidation process and magnetic activated sludge process1) Analysis of livestock wastewater in Tokachi District. We collected 15 livestock wastewater samples in Tokachi district and performed analysis of these water samples. BOD, total nitrogen and total phosphate was 500~1500mg/L, T-N100ng/l, T-P20mg/L in the average, respectively. These results were very important information for the future investigation for livestock water control. 2) Coagulation and decomposition of livestock wastewater in the laboratory We tried coagulation and decomposition of livestock wastewater in the laboratory with the use of the small scale of magnetic activated sludge process system. As a results, COD of the wastewater decreased about 93% by this system for 149 days continuously. This indicates that magnetic activated sludge process is very effective method for coagulation and decomposition of livestock for practical use in the field. We also tried coagulation and decomposition of livestock wastewater in the laboratory with the use of small scale of electrochemical oxidation process systems. As a result, COD, ammonium nitrogen and total phosphate was decreased 70%, 90% and 92%, for 4hr treatment, respectively. These results also indicate that electrochemical oxidation systems are very effective methods for coagulation and decomposition for livestock wastewater.
