  今年度はデス・アートの理論研究・事例研究に強調点を置いて活動を行なった。研究会を３回（5/10、9/05、３/22）開催し、以下の課題について各チームが検討した。第一にライフ／デス班がデス概念の哲学的言説を整理し（大橋）、デス・アート班は近代脱近代のデス・アートの系譜を整理（前川・加須屋）、双方のチーム間で討議を行い、ライフ・アート班との議論へと拡張した（岩崎・増田）。第二に、アート／テクノロジー班は生政治をめぐる作品を制作する作家にインタヴューし（水野・松谷）、ライフ／デス班がこれを受けて生政治概念とライフ概念の拡張について討議を行った（岩城・大橋）。以下３回の内容である。 ・第１回研究会：増田展大「ポストヒューマンから動物へ──その生と死」／松谷容作「《土をつくる》におけるライフ／デス」 ・第２回研究会：水野勝仁「インターネットアートを通して，何か新しいものに再接続する試み」／大橋完太郎「死と喪、およびそれをめぐる文化と表象についての現代思想・哲学」 ・第３回研究会：加須屋誠「仏教的宇宙観と身心観-構造とその崩壊-」／前川修「没後写真論―カタリーナ・ズュコラ『写真の複数の死』を読む1―」


• Formation and Structure of the Post-nostalgic Aesthetics

  本年度は、現代の文化理論、および美学・芸術学的観点を重視した現代哲学の議論を精査し、そこにおいてノスタルジーがどのような近代的機能を帯び、またさらなる近代化（ポスト近代）向かうために、その表象装置がもたらす利点と不利益とを確認した。 具体的な成果としては、早稲田大学で開催された表象文化論学会における研究パネルにおいて「個の救済とポップなもの」という発表を行い、脱歴史化されたポストモダン的高度資本主義社会において表れている存在と美の様式について、それを「ポップなもの」として扱うことに伴う文化的意味と、そこにおいて切断されるノスタルジー的要素との関係を考察した。 もうひとつの成果は、雑誌『現代思想』に掲載された宮崎裕助、千葉雅也、両氏との鼎談がある。ポストモダンを再考するという企画趣旨のもと進められた本鼎談においては、1960年代以降欧米から発して日本にも学術的にも文化的にも大きな影響を与えたポストモダンとその哲学を歴史化することの意義が検討され、とりわけその動向がたとえば80年代ノスタルジーを形成しないために、それらにどのような学術的展開を与えることが必要であるかなどが議論された。 執筆されたものとしては、『啓蒙思想の百科事典』に、「理神論」および「小説（フランス）」を執筆し、近代初期における信仰と理性の関係、および近代的個人における内面性の発達と言語表現の関係などを精査し、執筆内容には直接反映されるものではないが、こうした要素が同時代におけるノスタルジーの発生を促した一因となっていることが確認できた。 いずれの成果においても、本科研による文献調査や考察がベースになっており、一連の研究を通じた執筆が、その論文化・書籍化を目的として進められている。

  理論研究／事例研究に分けて説明する。 理論研究：①生命・自然班／②映像班／③知覚・脳科学班のうち、①生命・自然班については、８月開催の研究報告会においてバイオ／メディア／アートの結びつきをめぐり、戦後の言説的系譜を取りまとめ、以後、メディア論を軸にしながら、引き続き最新の言説の整理へ向かう方向と、逆に生物学の起点（19世紀初頭）へ向かう方向の可能性が議論された。②映像班では、同じく８月の報告会で、宇宙映画を素材にしながら無重力を重力下で表象化する方法について議論を行なった。③知覚・脳科学班では、８月の報告会では宇宙服のもたらす知覚の問題について議論をし、３月の報告会では、宇宙空間で視点を喪失する状態から逆に地上での幽体離脱的な反重力的視点を捉え直す議論を行ない、さらに2009年に開催の『宇宙と美術と人体と』展の作家へのインタビューをもとにした報告を素材に議論を進めた。また、本科研メンバーの真下／森によるドローンを使った作品制作の経過報告についても脳科学の観点から意見を交換した。 なお、生命自然班では、定期的に（年４回）バイオアートとメディア論に関する言説整理と文献消化の作業も行い、その一部を翻訳出版するプランも立ち上がっている。 事例研究では、８月に早稲田の先端生命医科学センターおよびBioClub、筑波宇宙センターでの調査を行い、それぞれの分担者がオーストラリアのバイオアーティスト、オロン・カッツのラボ視察、アルスエレクトロニカの巡回展、佐賀宇宙科学館などの視察を行い、上記の研究会で意見交換を行った。西オーストラリアのSimbioticAでの学会には岩城・増田がそれぞれバイオアート、スペースアートについて報告を行い、各国の研究者と意見交換を行った。


• Anthropological origin of Buffon's natural history

  This research aims at the common origin between natural history and anthropology, especially focusing on eighteenth-century's French philosopher Buffon and De Brosse. These two figures, born and grown in the same city of Burgundy district, have in common the images of living developments inspired not only by classic texts but also by their own observation. The parallel structure between early anthropology and early natural history can be found in their relationshps.


• The historical development of plant representations in modern British literature concerning natural resources and human desires

  This research project explored plant representations in modern British lterature and art in the social and scientific contexts of botanical and horticultural development, to set them as complementary to the human desires for natural resources which were derived from societal power structures. This project also endeavored to reveal that natural representations in literature and the arts were structured as correlative to the values of plants as resources. In this research, we also investigated various botanical scholars, horticulturalists and scientific patrons of plant cultures in the 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries, to detail how these social and scientific contexts influenced individual endeavors to delineate plants and their related information in the scientific or artistic fields. The results highlighted that literary representations of nature until the Romantic era were open to scrutiny and supported by historical objectification.

  We can conclude the two chief achievements through this research project. One thing is that Diderot's materialism, above all his idea of continuity between materials and living things, can be applied to criticize modern catastrophic situation of human technology. We don't know how to manipulate high technological machine which may go beyond our control, as the nuclear power does. Diderot's thesis on arts (technology) reveals this monstrous possibility of human being, and it leads us to invent our moral control which is in itself contained in constitution of human being as material order. The second is that we can find a new key concept of Diderot's philosophy; the idea of poverty. Poverty serves, in his thought, as one of the limits against the material flows which constantly grows and develops, helped by the technological power of human agent. Through the philosophical and historical analyses of Diderot's text, we can posit the importance of madness and poverty in Diderot.

  This research project aimed at pointing out the theoretical core of the French 18th Century's naturalist The Baron of Buffon, who was famous for his great work of Natural History. Through the survey of the first parts of his General and Particular Natural Histories, it was found that there existed the analogical order of his thinking, which enabled him to explain at once generation of animals and the formation of the development of human thoughts. This internal consistency between his discoveries on natural study and his rhetorical ideas written in Treatise on Style would be marked as a main feature of his thinking.
