    Solid-state nuclear track detectors (SSNTDs) are often used as ion detectors in laser-driven ion acceleration experiments and are considered to be the most reliable ion diagnostics since they are sensitive only to ions and measure ions one by one. However, ion pit analyses require tremendous time and effort in chemical etching, microscope scanning, and ion pit identification by eyes. From a laser-driven ion acceleration experiment, there are typically millions of microscopic images, and it is practically impossible to analyze all of them by hand. This research aims to improve the efficiency and automation of SSNTD analyses for laser-driven ion acceleration. We use two sets of data obtained from calibration experiments with a conventional accelerator where ions with known nuclides and energies are generated and from actual laser experiments using SSNTDs. After chemical etching and scanning the SSNTDs with an optical microscope, we use machine learning to distinguish the ion etch pits from noises. From the results of the calibration experiment, we confirm highly accurate etch-pit detection with machine learning. We are also able to detect etch pits with machine learning from the laser-driven ion acceleration experiment, which is much noisier than calibration experiments. By using machine learning, we successfully identify ion etch pits ∼105 from more than 10 000 microscopic images with a precision of ≳95%. A million microscopic images can be examined with a recent entry-level computer within a day with high precision. Machine learning tremendously reduces the time consumption on ion etch pit analyses detected on SSNTDs.

    The generation of highly charged ions in laser plasmas is usually associated with collisional ionization processes that occur in electron–ion collisions. An alternative ionization channel caused by tunnel ionization in an optical field is also capable of effectively producing highly charged ions with ionization potentials of several kiloelectronvolts when the laser intensity q > 1020 W/cm2. It is challenging to clearly distinguish the impacts of the optical field and collisional ionizations on the evolution of the charge state of a nonequilibrium plasma produced by the interaction of high-intensity, ultrashort PW-class laser pulses with dense matter. In the present work, it is shown that the answer to this question can be obtained in some cases by observing the X-ray spectral lines caused by the transition of an electron into the K-shell of highly charged ions. The time-dependent calculations of plasma kinetics show that this is possible, for example, if sufficiently small clusters targets with low-density background gas are irradiated. In the case of Ar plasma, the limit of the cluster radius was estimated to be R0 = 0.1 μm. The calculation results for argon ions were compared with the results of the experiment at the J-KAREN-P laser facility at QST-KPSI.

    Abstract We have developed a measurement method for laser-accelerated multi-hundred-MeV-class protons using an emulsion cloud chamber (ECC), which consists of a stack of nuclear emulsion films and scatterer plates. Based on multiple Coulomb scattering (MCS) theory depending on the incident energy of protons, we have constructed a regression model to inversely estimate the incident energy by means of support vector regression (SVR) with a radial basis function. The prediction accuracy was approximately 10% (standard deviation) for protons with energies up to 0.3 GeV in a 25 layer ECC with 0.5 mm thick tungsten plates, corresponding to a 2 cm thick compact detector.

    Particle counting analysis is a possible way to characterize GeV-scale, multi-species ions produced in laser-driven experiments. We present a multi-layered scintillation detector to differentiate multi-species ions of different masses and energies. The proposed detector concept offers potential advantages over conventional diagnostics in terms of (1) high sensitivity to GeV ions, (2) realtime analysis, and (3) the ability to differentiate ions with the same charge-to-mass ratio. A novel choice of multiple scintillators with different ion stopping powers results in a significant difference in energy deposition between the scintillators, allowing accurate particle identification in the GeV range. Here, we report a successful demonstration of particle identification for heavy ions, performed at the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba. In the experiment, the proposed detector setup showed the ability to differentiate particles with similar atomic numbers, such as C6+ and O8+ ions, and provided an excellent energy resolution of 0.41%–1.2% (including relativistic effect, 0.51%--1.6%).

    Multi-MeV high-purity proton acceleration by using a hydrogen cluster target irradiated with repetitive, relativistic intensity laser pulses has been demonstrated. Statistical analysis of hundreds of data sets highlights the existence of markedly high energy protons produced from the laser-irradiated clusters with micron-scale diameters. The spatial distribution of the accelerated protons is found to be anisotropic, where the higher energy protons are preferentially accelerated along the laser propagation direction due to the relativistic effect. These features are supported by three-dimensional (3D) particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, which show that directional, higher energy protons are generated via the anisotropic ambipolar expansion of the micron-scale clusters. The number of protons accelerating along the laser propagation direction is found to be as high as 1.6 [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text] 10[Formula: see text]/MeV/sr/shot with an energy of 2.8 [Formula: see text] MeV, indicating that laser-driven proton acceleration using the micron-scale hydrogen clusters is promising as a compact, repetitive, multi-MeV high-purity proton source for various applications.

    レーザー駆動イオン加速技術において,ミクロンサイズの水素クラスターのクーロン爆発を利用して,高繰 り返しで,multi-MeV の純陽子線を発生させる方法を提案した.本研究において,クライオスタットで冷却した 高圧水素ガスをパルスバルブに接続した円錐ノズルを介して真空中に噴射することによりミクロンサイズの水素 クラスターターゲットを発生させる装置を開発した.水素クラスターのサイズ分布は,散乱光の角度分布から Mie 散乱理論に基づき,Tikhonov 正則化法を利用して数学的に見積もった.25 K,6 MPa の状態の水素を噴射し た場合,クラスターの最大サイズは 2.15±0.1 μm であると見積もられた.その上で,J-KAREN-P 施設において水 素クラスターをターゲットとした 0.1 Hz 高繰り返し陽子加速の実証実験を行った.トムソンパラボラスペクトロ メーターを用いたエネルギー測定では,最大 7 MeV の純陽子線を観測した.高出力レーザーパルスとミクロンサ イズ水素クラスターの相互作用過程に関する三次元 Particle-in-Cell(PIC)シミュレーションにおいては,レー ザー伝搬方向に加速される 300 MeV におよぶ高指向性の準単色陽子発生が予測され,本手法は,将来的に高繰り 返しの高エネルギー高純度陽子源の有力候補になる可能性を秘めている.

    PADC 薄膜に 28 MeV 電子線および軟 X 線を照射し、実効的なトラックサイズやG 値等の化学的損傷パラメータを評価した。エーテル基の相対吸光度はフルエンスの増加に伴って線形的に減少したが、カルボニル基およびメチン基のそれは 1.6 × 10^15electrons/cm^2 以上の領域でのみ減少した。照射後に新たな端点として生成するヒドロキシル基の生成率も同フルエンス以上の領域で減少することも確認した。同様の傾向が超軟 X 線照射時にも確認された。28 MeV 電子線照射時のエーテル基損失のG 値はガンマ線のそれとほぼ同程度であり、70 MeV のプロトンの半分程度であった。これはプロトンの飛跡に沿った損傷が元の構造に戻る再結合を抑制していることを示唆する結果であった。カルボニル基損失のG値は’“Single-hit zone” では 10

    A review is given for our recent studies on latent track structure in Poly(allyl diglycol carbonate), PADC, which is the most sensitive etched track detector. We have investigated the irradiation effects of protons and heavy ions, covering the stopping power ranging from 1.2 to 12,000 eV/nm, as well as gamma rays from Co-60 with an average LET of about 0.2 eV/nm and 28 MeV elec

    高繰り返し、超高純度のレーザー駆動陽子線源のための新たなターゲットとして、ミクロンサイズの水素クラスターターゲットを開発した。講演では、数理的手法を用いたクラスターサイズ決定法の解説に続き、開発した水素クラスターターゲットを用いた、クーロン爆発による100MeV超陽子線発生、無衝突衝撃波加速による290MeV準単色陽子線発生、輻射の影響が少ないblast wave発生、等の研究への応用について述べる。

  • Applications of CR-39 solid state nuclear track detector to ion beam diagnosis

    固体飛跡検出器として用いられているCR-39は,光学材料として開発されたプラスチック素材で,大気中のラドン濃度計測や,宇宙線計測,生物細胞照射実験など様々な分野に利用されている.レーザープラズマのような電子線やX線が混在する場においても,イオンのみを選択的に検出し,またその精度が非常に高いことから,混成場におけるイオン検出器として注目を集めている.CR-39には,イオンビーム特性(エネルギー同定,核種同定など)に関する情報を引き出すために,様々な検出法や解析手法が存在する.しかし,それら手法のほとんどは,プラズマ研究者に広く知られていないのが現状である.本解説では,ここ数年間の日本原子力研究開発機構と神戸大学大学院海事科学研究科の共同研究の成果を中心に,CR-39を用いたレーザー駆動イオンビームの特性評価に関する解説を行う.

    The 66th JSAP Spring Meeting, 2019, Mar. 2019, Japanese, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Ookayama Campus, 固体飛跡検出器の一つであるビスフェノール A ポリカーボネート(以下 PC)に関して、 これまでに重イオンやガンマ線など様々な放射線を用いた照射実験が行われてきた。これ らの照射前後の有機高分子の構造を調べる手段として赤外顕微鏡(以下 IRT)を用いた。図 1 に顕微赤外法を用いて PC における C=O 基の吸光度をマッピング測定した結果を示す。 表示している領域は 4000×4000 μm2 である。図から吸光度すなわち面密度にストライプパ ターンが存在することが確認できる。本研究では単位面積あたりの各官能基のモル数を面 密度とし、それをパラメータにしてイオントラック生成に及ぼす面密度の影響を評価し た。, Domestic conference

    The 66th JAPS Spring Meeting, 2019, Mar. 2019, Japanese, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Ookayama Campus, ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)の検出閾値は製造法などによって一定の幅で変化することで知られ ている。その閾値を制御することができれば、放射線混成場において任意の重イオンを選択的に検出す る新たな固体飛跡検出器の開発につながると考える。本研究は PET の閾値を決定する潜在イオントラッ ク構造の変化を詳細に解析することを目的としている。先行する研究から PET の各官能基の放射線化学 収率(G 値)と阻止能の関係には明確なステップがあることがわかっている[1]。このステップ状の変化は PET の検出閾値と密接に関係していると考えられる。本研究では G 値のステップ近傍での損傷構造を解 明すべく、2.5μm の PET 薄膜のスタックに B-11 イオンの照射を行い、照射前後の赤外線吸収スペクトル を求め、G 値の評価を行った。また同素材で 13μ, Domestic conference

    The 66th JAPS Spring Meeting, 2019, Mar. 2019, Japanese, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Ookayama Campus, ポリアリルジグリコールカーボネート(PADC)は最も感度の高いエッチング型飛跡検出 器として知られている。近年、PADC 内の潜在飛跡形成機構の解明のための研究が体系的に 進められており、エーテル基が最も損傷を受けやすいこと、新たな端点としてヒドロキシル 基が生成されることなどが明らかにされた。また、赤外分光法を用いた研究において PADC にガンマ線を照射すると 60 kGy 程度の低線量域まではエーテル基のみが損傷を受け、60 kGy 以降の線量ではじめてカーボネートエステルの損傷が始まることを確認できた[1]。こ のカーボネートエステルが損傷する吸収線量を「臨界線量」と定義した。この段階的な損傷 過程をラジカルの生成と消滅との関係で理解するために電子スピン共鳴分光法(ESR)を適 用し分析を行った。ESR 法において PADC に液体窒素温度下, Domestic conference

    The 65th JSAP Spring Meeting 2018, Mar. 2018, Japanese, Waseda University, 炭素イオンまでの比較的軽いイオンでは相対速度が 1%以上の領域で両者 の式から得られる実効電荷に差はなく、鉄イオンより重いイオンでは相対速度が 1%から 30%の領 域で Schiwietz らの実効電荷が Heckman の実効電荷を上回ることがわかった。さらに検出閾値に おける線量分布を計算し、イオントラック形成機構に関する考察を行った。その結果、局所線量が増加するほど感度も増加することがわかり、局所線量が大きくなるとイオントラック により深い損傷を与えると考えられる。また PET 検出器閾値での Geant4-DNA シミュレーションの 結果も発表したいと考えている。, Domestic conference

    The 65th JSAP Spring Meeting 2018, Mar. 2018, Japanese, Waseda University, 確認するべき一つの課題は、水のヒドロキシル基のモル吸光係数と高分子中の新しい端点に なっているヒドロキシル基のそれが同一であると考えてよいかどうかというものである。本研 究ではカール・フィッシャー電量適定法と赤外分光法を用いて、高分子中にヒドロキシル基を 有するポリビニルアルコール(PVA)を用いてそのモル吸光係数を求めた。市販のPVA薄膜の厚 さは最も薄いものでも 10 μm を超えており、ヒドロキシル基伸縮のピークは飽和してしまい、 定量的な評価はできなかった。自作のPVA薄膜の赤外線スペクトルを図2に示す。膜厚はおよ そ 5 μm であった。可能な限り脱気した状態で赤外線スペクトルを求め、水が含まれていない と仮定してモル吸光係数を求めたところ、1.2x104 M-1cm-1という値が得られている。講演では 薄膜に含まれている水分量を補正したモ, Domestic conference

    The 78th JSAP Autum Meeting, Sep. 2017, Japanese, Fukuoka International Congress Center, 昨年の秋の年会において重合度の異なる PADC やモノマーである ADC の赤外線吸収スペクトルについて報告し、3000 cm-1付近のCH2(メチレン基)とCH(メチン基)の伸縮振動に帰属されるピークの強度比と重合度との関係について報告した。具体的には、3 つのピークのうち 2960 cm-1 と 2890 cm-1 はメチレン基に帰属され、真ん中にある 2920 cm-1 はメチン基に帰属される。図 1 に示すように PADC 中の H のほとんどはメチレン基を構成しており、メチン基を構成しているのは、繰り返し構造あたり 2 個のみである。また、これらは重合の際に生まれる三叉路に位置している。これまでの PADC 中イオントラック構造の研究において、エーテル基とカーボネートエステル基が高い放射線感受性を有しており、3 次元構造を生み出しているポリ, Domestic conference

    The 63rd JSAP Spring Meeting, 2016, Mar. 2016, Japanese, Tokyo Institute of Technology, 現在高分子トラック損傷構造について赤外顕微鏡を用いた分析が行われている。従来用いて きた赤外分光器と比べると測定域が小さく顕微鏡下で任意に測定点を決めることが出来るため、 高フルエンスを実現するためにビームを細くするような小さな範囲を測定するために利用され ている。しかし、ビーム照射域を絞ると強度にばらつきが生じることが知られており、そのため 正確な定量分析が阻まれる。そこで、赤外顕微鏡の機能の一つである任意に格子点数や測定面積 を決めることが可能である顕微マッピング測定機能の活用を試みた。同機能を用いることによ りビーム強度の分布を明らかにすると共に、照射前後の吸光度比より化学的損傷パラメータの 算出が可能となる。さらに過去に得られた結果と比較することにより、顕微マッピング機能の有 効性の確認を行うことが本研究の目的である。, Domestic conference

    27th Workshop on Solids State Nuclear Track Detectors, Mar. 2013, Japanese, Kobe University, これまでPADC薄膜に6 MeV/n以下の重イオン照射し、赤外分光を用いて高分子飛跡材料中のイオントラック構造分析についての研究を進めてきた。特にPADC中のカルボニル基の放射線化学収率(G値)はプロトン照射によるが最も大きい値であった。そこでコバルト60を用いたガンマー線照射を実施したところ、プロトンのG値よりも大きな値を得たことから、より阻止能が低いほどG値が大きくなるという結果が確認された。そこで本研究ではこれまでよりも高エネルギーのC (1.10, 1.25 and 1.39 GeV)、 Fe (20.8 and 22.8 GeV)、Xe (10 GeV)イオンを照射し化学的損傷パラメータを求めた。, Domestic conference

    27, Mar. 2013, Japanese, Kobe University, CR-39を用いた高強度高エネルギーイオンビームに対する簡易診断法を開発した。適切な散乱体の上に重ねたCR-39に対して、加速器にてHeイオンをエネルギー及びフルエンスともに検出閾値以上の条件で照射した。多段階エッチング法により解析を行った結果、CR-39の裏面には後方散乱粒子によってエッチピットが形成されていることが明らかとなった。また、裏面のエッチピットの分布すなわち後方散乱粒子を利用して高エネルギーイオンビームの診断が可能であることを確認した。この手法を、クラスターターゲットを用いたレーザー駆動イオン加速実験に適用し、50 MeV/nのHeイオンの検出に成功した。, Domestic conference

    The 64th JSAP Spring Meeting 2017, Mar. 2013, Japanese, Pacifico Yokohama, 固体飛跡検出器の中で最も感度が高く、中性子やラドン計測にも使用可能な検出器としてポリ アリルジグリコールカーボネート(PADC)がある。PADC は高強度電磁パルス下で電子線や X 線に感度を持たず、特定のイオンのみを弁別して測定することが可能なのでレーザー駆動イオン 加速器実験にも利用される。しかし、検出感度を決定する構造上の特性についてまだ未解明な部 分が多い。そのため、本研究ではPADCのプロトンに対する検出閾値である17 eV/nm付近のH 及び He イオン照射を行い、その赤外線分光分析から構造上の特性を解明することを目的とした。 化学的損傷パラメータとしては、トラック単位距離あたりの官能基の損傷数である損傷密度、官 能基が失われている径方向の広がりを示す実効的トラックコア半径、放射線化学収率(G 値)を 利用し、これら 3 つの化学的損傷, Domestic conference

    27, Mar. 2013, Japanese, Kobe University, 高強度レーザーによる固体ターゲットを用いたレーザー駆動イオン加速実験では、最大で40 MeVのプロトンの発生が確認されている。イオン計測にはCR-39 が広く利用されているが、最大エネルギーの決定精度については、様々な問題点が残されていた。本研究では積層したCR-39 を用い、レーザーによって加速されたイオンの計測を行なった。エッチピットが確認された最終層のCR-39 に対して、多段階エッチング法を適用することで、最終層内での飛程を算出し、最大エネルギーをE=0.1 MeV という高い精度で決定した。また、ZnS(Ag)蛍光体を用いたオンライン型検出器による計測も行った。, Domestic conference
