  • A Prototype System for Practicing English Speaking
    KASHIWAGI HARUMI, KANG Min, OHTSUKI Kazuhiro
    In this study, we developed a prototype system that helps students practice speaking English. When students speak English, they may have difficulty expressing their intentions in real time, even when they know the correct words and phrases. To think of the correct English terms smoothly, it is important that students use the language knowledge they have acquired. By using probable linguistic situations, our system attempts to check and provide information about the words and phrases learners can use. We conducted an experiment with 105 first-year Japanese university students to investigate the following research questions: (1) Does the prototype system run properly, provide questions, and save the log data as expected?; (2) When we check the learners’ answers in real time, how many evaluation items and evaluation levels are appropriate?; and (3) How should we display the results of the evaluation to ensure visual comprehension? Concerning the first question, the results of the experiment show that the system runs properly and saves the log data. For the second question, the results suggest that a few evaluation items and a few evaluation levels are preferable for checking the learners’ answers in real time. Results for the third question suggest that a color-coded table could help visually interpret the learners’ results. In this table, English sentences grouping probable linguistic situations are classified according to the percentage of the correct answers, such as less than 50%, 50?80%, and more than 80%.

    本稿では,これまでのリスニング学習における学習履歴データを用いて,学習者の英単語学習における音素レベルの誤りパターンを自動検出するシステムを開発した.そして,学生グループの共通のリスニングウィークポイントを発見し,フィードバックする機能を実装した.検出は学習履歴データにある正解単語と誤った単語を取り出し,音素レベルに分解することによって行い,誤りパターンの出現回数も計算した.これまで蓄積した学習履歴データに対して検出を行い,検出手法の有効性を確認した.単語の中に聞き取りにくい音素が一つのみの場合に対して,開発したフィードバック機能の利用によって,学習者のリスニングウィークポイントを把握しやすくなるが,それ以外のケースに対して新たな検出手法が必要であることも明らかになった.

    本研究では,教育現場における利用や教材作成を考慮したシステム作りを目指して,RFIDタグを用いた英会話練習システムを試作し,小学校英語授業で実験的に利用することにより,システムに対する評価を行った.このシステムを利用することにより,教師(または学習者)は,複雑な操作や専門知識なしに,非接触ICタグカードを用いて英文音声を出力することができる.また,音声データは,教師が独自に録音した音声を個人のPCで手軽に編集加工して利用することが可能となっている.

    本研究は,外国語教育における合成音声利用の可能性を探ることを目的としている.特徴のある母音を含む名詞と動詞の英単語について,合成音声とネイティブ音声を用いたWebベースの音声評価用CALL教材を作成し,文理系の学生にそれぞれの音声を評価させた.クラスター分析の結果から,合成音声は,単語レベルにおいて,「とても聞きやすい」と評価されるネイティブ音声と同じレベルのもの,「普通」と評価される違和感のないもの,そして,ネイティブ音声と明らかな差があるものと三種類に分類できることが判明した.また,ネイティブ音声と同様に利用できる合成音声の特徴について探ってみた.

  • 適応型学習に対応するIT用語辞書の関連用語推薦機能の検討

    本研究は，学習者の理解状況に応じて適切な説明コンテンツを提示するIT用語辞書に学習すべき関連用語を推薦する手法を提案する．推薦するにあたって，学習者の理解状況と学習履歴を考慮し，用語間の関連度を用いて推薦を行う．関連度を計算するには，用語のカテゴリ属性情報，文章中における共起情報を用いる．提案手法を実装したシステムで主観評価を行ない，有効に機能することを確認する．

  • A design ofWBT system with visualizing network status for networking education

    本研究では，ネットワーク技術に対するハンズオン学習を支援するシステムの構築方法を検討する。ネット情報を視覚的な表示にすることで，理論知識の学習と実践操作を結び付ける。学習者または指導者は「学習内容」，「学習者の知識レベル」，「学習の角度」の三つの要素を選ぶことで，学習者に適合する学習図が出せる。また，学習図に表示させる表示内容をパーツ化し，さらに，パーツの組み合わせ方をパターン化することで，学習画面ごとに表示用データファイルを条件制御式で用意する手間を省けるようにした。We consider the design of the system which supports the hands-on learning in network technology. Practice is connected with theory knowledge by making net information into a figure. In this system, a student or a supervisor can take out the figure which is easy to be understood by choosing three elements: the contents of study; a student's knowledge level; and the angle of study. Each figure can be created easily using predefined components. It can save further time and effort on preparing the data file for a figure instead of making condition control for every figure.

    本研究の目的は、作文の産出過程に焦点をあて、自然言語処理技術を活用し、従来の作文産出後の添削方式と異なった個々の学習者の言語形式への気づきを高める新しいタイプの学習者適応型作文支援システムを開発し、実践的に評価を行うことである。システムには、学習者の言語形式への気づき(Focus on Form) を高める機能の実装により、正しい文法に繰り返し学習させ、文法上の誤りの軽減を図り、教師による添削労力の軽減および学習者の主体的に作文する能力の向上につながることを目標としている。言語形式への気づきは語彙の使い方への気づきと文法項目への気づきに分ける。学習者のライティング能力をレベル分けし、書く前の準備作業段階においても、書く過程においても、さらに教師による添削前の自己修正段階においても、語彙と文法の二つの側面からネイティブ表現に気づかせ、その習得および作文への活用を促す機能を開発する。 令和３年度では、語彙に焦点を当て研究を進めた。プロトタイプのライティング支援システムを開発した。システムには、予め用意したリーディングリソースから三単現動詞を自動的に視覚的に強調する機能を実装し、リーディングの際に注意を払わせる有効な手法を調べた。また、単語スペルへの気づきにおいては、未習得の単語の検索方法に着目して、スペル音声による検索とテキスト検索の相違によるスペルへの記憶効果を調査し、単語スペルへの気づきの手法を検討した。結果としては、学習者の単語スペルへの記憶効果はスペル音声による検索方法を用いた場合がテキスト検索方法を用いた場合より有意に上回っていることが判明した。

  • コピペ時代のプログラミング学習方法の開発

    本研究では、プログラムに対する俯瞰的な理解力を涵養するための学習方法を開発することを目的にする。さらに、開発した学習方法を用いた実証実験を行い、同方法の可能性・妥当性を調査する。 本研究で行う学習方法の基本は、比較的似通ったプログラムによって作成された２つのビジュアルコンテンツ（静止画、動画、マウス操作によって変化する画像など：以下コンテンツと呼ぶ）を閲覧し、その違いを学習しようというものである。 2019年度は、まず、同学習を行うための学習支援システムの構築を行った。同支援システムでは、(1)個々のコンテンツ、およびソースプログラムのデータベースへの格納・登録、(2)比較用教材となる２個のコンテンツをペアの登録・および教材メタデータの登録、(3)登録されたコンテンツ群からペアの候補を見つけるための支援機能である検索機能・類似コンテンツ推薦機能、(4)登録されたコンテンツを元に類似コンテンツを作成するための類似コンテンツ作成機能などを準備した。 2020年度は、作成した支援システムの教員側の操作性について本研究担当者間で使用実験を行ないし、支援システムを利用することで簡易、かつ柔軟に授業で使用するコンテンツを準備できることを確認した。 2021年度は、開発したプロトタイプシステムを用いて実証実験を行なう予定であったが、

  • Research of a CALL System Focusing on Interactivity and Practicality

    In this research we developed a CALL system which focuses on interactivity and practicality. With respect to interactivity, it aims at giving flexible feedback according to the student's response, similar to that a teacher performs in actual class activities. The proposed system has the following features : (1)Adequate error/hint messages, such as "The correct answer is not 〜 but--" or "The correct answer is farther up than that" are considered to deal with the learner's response. (2)The method of message presentation is dialogical such that a simple message sentence is presented at a short interval to a reply of a student. With regard to practicality, we designed an authoring tool in which various error/hint messages are created only by selecting message patterns. Our system is of the server-client type, that is, materials are distributed on a network so that students can use the materials not only in CALL rooms but also in other computer rooms or at home. In the material, learners move pictures with a mouse to the correct destination while they listen to a series of questions in English. The system checks their answers and provides error/hint messages. Multiple patterns of error/hint messages are prepared to deal with the various mistakes students might make. The messages are automatically produced based on the message patterns and learner's answers. As a result of experiments on this newly created system, stable operation was able to be carried out. In relation to the function of error/hint message instruction, the research indicated that the learners' reactions changed with their score result of the proficiency test. Based on these results, it was found that this system was successful in providing supportive interaction between computers and learners, and it could be used as one of the materials in the school curriculum.
