- In high-resolution molecular spectroscopy, detailed structures and dynamics appear as frequency shifts, line broadening, intensity anomalies, and Zeeman effects. To observe these minute effects, the relative uncertainty of the frequencies should be less than 10−9. However, to comprehensively analyze the rovibronic energy-level structure and dynamics in a single vibronic excited state, the spectrum over the entire single vibronic band, which extends to hundreds of GHz, must be measured. We developed an optical frequency synthesizer (OFS) employing a scanning single-mode Ti:Sapphire laser and an Er comb to satisfy these contradictory demands. The continuous scanning range was not limited in the developed OFS, and wide-range spectra extending across the entire scanning range of the single-mode laser in the OFS were obtained. For a detailed examination of the developed OFS, we measured the D2 transition of Rb atoms. Although continuous scanning generally has an adverse effect on precise frequency determination, the obtained transition frequencies agreed with those obtained in previous studies, where laser frequencies were locked to a specific transition for a long time. To demonstrate the power of the developed OFS in molecular spectroscopy, the rovibronic spectrum of 1,2-benzanthracene was observed over a single band. - Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Kobe University, 2003 - 2004Studies on Molecular Structure and Dynamics by Doppler-free High-resolution Laser Spectroscopy1.Doppler-free two-photon fluorescence excitation spectra of the A^1A_u(v_7=1)←X^1A_g transition of trans-glyoxal were measured under the magnetic field up to 6T. By analyzing the results, it is concluded that the Zeeman splitting of the A^1^A_u state is originating from the mixing of the 1^3Bu state by spin-orbit interaction and the magnetic moment is along the top axis. 2.High resolution excitation spectra and the Zeeman effects for the low-lying vibrational band of the S_1^1B_<2u>←S_0^1A_<1g> transition in gaseous benzene-d_6 were measured. No perturbation originating from an interaction with a triplet state was observed in both bands. It became clear from the Zeeman spectra that rotationally resolved levels are not mixed with a triplet state. Accordingly, it was concluded that the intersystem mixing is not likely to occur at levels of low excess energy in the S_1 state of an isolated benzene. 3.Doppler-free two-photon excitation spectrum and the Zeeman effect of the S_1^1B_<1u>(v_<21>=1)←S_0^1A_g(v=0) transition of naphthalene have been measured. Rotationally resolved levels were found not to be mixed with a triplet state from the Zeeman spectra. It is demonstrated that nonradiative decay of an isolated naphthalene excited to low rovibronic levels in the S_1 state does not occur through the intersystem mixing. 188 4.Sub-Doppler high-resolution excitation spectra of dibenzo-p-dioxin (DD) have been observed for the 0_0^0 and 0_0^0+22 cm^<-1> bands of the S_1←S_0 transition by crossing a tunable laser beam perpendicular to a collimated molecular beam. The observed spectra were reproduced well by simulating the spectra as the a-type transition, and the S_1 state is identified to be a ^1B_<1u> state. The DD molecule has been shown t 0_0^+22 cm^<-1> band is assigned as a transition to the a_g component of butterfly mode.
- 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 奨励研究(A), 神戸大学, 1998 - 1999イオン検出を用いた高分解能レーザー分光システムの開発と展開1.これまでに確立した光検出によるドップラーフリー光・光二重共鳴偏光分光法を用いて、アルカリ金属二原子分子であるKRb分子の励起状態の観測を行うとともに、上記分光法を紫外光領域に拡張してLi_2、NaLi、Na_2分子の高分解能分光をも行った結果、以下のことが明らかとなった。 (1)KRb分子において観測された2つの^1II状態間における状態間相互作用の存在を見出すとともに、その相互作用における両状態の波動関数の符号によってスペクトル線の強度異常が生じる(干渉効果)ことを発見した。また、KRb分子の(1)^1II状態の高振動準位においてスペクトル線幅の広がりを見出し、線幅の広がりが前期解離によるものと帰属した。さらに、前期解離の生じている領域において2つの^1II状態間における状態間相互作用が生じる場合に、前期解離の大きさにも干渉効果が生じていることを見出した。 (2)Li_2、NaLi、Na_2分子の紫外領域の高分解能分光を行い、励起状態の構造を決定するとともに、スペクトル線のシフトや線幅の変化から状態間相互作用や前期解離を見出し、その機構を明らかにした。特に、Li_2分子に関しては、2極小ポテンシャルを持つ励起状態における相互作用について詳細な知見を得ることができた。 2.前年度に作成したイオン検出を目的としたステンレス製ヒートパイブセルを改良し、アルカリ金属二原子分子のスペクトルを光検出による測定を試みた。信号を得ることができるようになったが、前期解離などの現象を観測するにはさらなる信号ノイズ比の向上が必要である。
- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Kobe University, 1998 - 1999Development of Cavity-Dumped Ti : sapphire Femtosecond Laser and its AmplifierWe have developed an intra-cavity dumped femtosecond Ti : sapphire laser system and its multi-pass amplifier to obtain a moderately high energy short pulse, enough to perform third order optical nonlinear experiment in liquid solutions. Currently, commercially available femtosecond Ti : sapphire laser systems are either (1)Ti : sapphire oscillator (general price = 18,000,000 yen), which yields a pulse with an energy of 4 nJ/pulse, or (2)Ti : sapphire oscillator and its amplifier (general price = 50,000,000 yen), which yields a pulse with an energy of 1 mJ/pulse. In order to perform experiment with a short pulse in chemical systems such as transient absorption or photon echo, we need a pulse with an energy around mJ/pulse to sub mJ/pulse. Therefore, a new short pulse laser system is desirable to get s moderately high energy pulse. In this research project we here calculated stability of oscillation for the cavity-dumped Ti : sapphire laser by the ABCD matrix formalism. We have investigated both the five-mirror configuration and six-mirror configuration theoretically and experimentally. The cavity dumper laser produces a pulse width of 13 fs and energy of 67 nJ/pulse at 4 MHz. Currently, a multi-pass (six-pass) amplifier with a Ti : sapphire crystal is being designed and constructed to get a higher energy pulse. The purpose of this amplifier is to get a pulse with an energy more than sub microJ/pulse at 20 kHz. We are also writing a manual to construct this laser system and are planning to distribute it to public.
- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Specially Promoted Research, Kobe University, 1992 - 1996High-resolution Spectroscopy Combined with Laser, Molecular Beam and Magnetic or Electric Field, and Dynamics of Excited MoleculesWe have constructed a single mode auto-scan laser system which works in UV-Visible-NearIR region. An actively stabilized etalon is used to measure the absolute wavenumber of laser line, and the accuracy better than 0.0001cm^<-1> is obtained. The jitters of frequency of the scanning laser is reduced by locking the laser cavity to a stabilized external cavity, and the line width is reduced to 0.00002cm^<-1>. We developed new experimental methods by combining the laser, a molecular beam, and the external magnetic or electric field. 1. We have studied the structure and the dynamics of excited molecules by using techniques of ultra-high resolution spectroscopy. We found a new interference effect in predissociation which is a quantum effect in photodissociation. It shows the importance of phases of wave functions whose levels concerns a chemical reaction. 2. We extended the high-resolution spectroscopy for polyatomic molecules, such as CS_2, glyoxal, and pyrazine. We measured a Doppler-free two-photon absorption apectrum of glyoxal. The spectrum is completely assigned and the molecular constants are determined. With accuracy better than 100 times than previous studies, we could study small perturbations and the effect of magnetic field even at 5 gauss. These studies opened a new field of spectroscopy which uses the intensity and energy shift. 3. Cs_2 molecules were excited to the single level D^1SIGMA^+_ (v=46, J=54), which predissociated to Cs (6s^2S_<1/2>) + Cs(6p^2P_<3/2>) atoms. The m_j-resolved excitation spectra of the Cs(8s^2S_<1/2, m'j>, *6p^2P_<2/3, mj>) transition in a magnetic field. This is the first report concerning the m_j-resolved Doppler line shape. 4. Many levels are excited simultaneously in a ultra-first spectroscopy, but we can get lifetime or predissociation rate of a single level in a high-resolution spectroscopy. We measured the rotationally resolved line shapes of predissociating levels, and the predissociation was studied by using supplementaly the results of time-resolved spectroscopy and high-resolution spectroscopy.
- 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 奨励研究(A), 神戸大学, 1994 - 1994ドプラーフリー高分解能レーザー分光による前期解離過程に関する研究単色性のよいレーザー2台およびチタンサファイヤレーザーを用いたドプラーフリー光・光二重共鳴偏光分光法により、アルカリ金属二原子分子のレーザー高分解能分光を行った結果、次のような知見を得ることができた。 1.NaK分子の高励起状態について、二段階励起による二重共鳴スペクトルを観測した結果、33016〜33674cm^<-1>領域について多くの高励起一重項状態を観測・同定することができた。また、観測されたいくつかの回転線においてエネルギーシフトおよび強度異常が生じていることが判明し、これらの異常は近傍に存在する電子励起状態との状態間摂動に起因しており、強度異常は摂動による遷移モーメントの打ち消し合い(干渉効果)によることを明らかにすることができた。 2.NaK分子のB^1II状態の解離限界近傍を観測した結果、観測された回転線にエネルギーシフトおよび線幅の広がりが生じている事が判明した。この広がりは近傍に存在するc^3Σ状態の解離連続帯を経てK(4p^2_<1/2>)原子を生じる前期解離に起因する事を明らかにすると共に、エネルギーシフトから、さらにb^3II状態とも強く相互作用している事が明らかとなった。 3.Cs_2分子のC^1IIu状態のv´=20までの振動回転準位を観測・同定する事ができた。v´>12の振動回転準位に大きなエネルギーシフトが見られるとともに、摂動の相手状態の振動回転準をも観測する事ができた。また、v´>14において線幅の広がりが観測され、この領域において近傍に存在するc^3Σu状態により前期解離している事が明らかとなった。
