- FRP is a composite material made by mixing fiber such as glass with resin plastic to increase its strength. In this study, focusing on the temperature application time when performing the thermal cycle application test and the dry treatment before tensile and bending tests, the temperature cycle application test was conducted in which the time of one cycle was changed for GFRP using unsaturated polyester resin. After that, a tensile test and a flexural test are performed, and the purpose is to clarify the change in mechanical properties of the target material depending on the temperature application time and water content. As a result, it was found that tensile and bending properties were not affected much by the temperature application time in the case of non-drying treatment before the cyclic test, and that strength were affected by the thermal cycle in the case of drying treatment.Corresponding, Japan Society of Civil Engineers, May 2022, Journal of Japan Society of Civil Engineers, Ser. - The stress state around a rib-to-deck (RD) joint in an orthotropic steel bridge deck is extremely sensitive to wheel-load location in the transverse direction. Fatigue cracks of various types can occur around the RD joint. In this study, a bending fatigue-test system was used to simulate an RD joint under the critical-load case. The fatigue tests for two groups of RD joint specimens with weld-penetration ratios of 15 and 75% were conducted to assess the influence of the penetration ratio on the fatigue-crack type and its fatigue resistance. Fatigue-test results suggest that the fatigue resistances of the RD joint specimens with 75 and 15% penetration ratios were approximately Class B and between Class C and Class D, respectively, per Japanese standards. - Pultruded Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs) have been increasingly used in civil infrastructure applications due to advanced properties such as high specific strength, lightweight and especially high corrosion resistance. In highly corrosive environment such as chemical and acid environment where metallic by-products are prone to corrosion, the use of adhesive bonding in addition to FRP bolts not only decreases the structure's weight, limits the impacts of aggressive environment but also increases the ultimate strength of the connection and improves the connection stiffness. In this paper, mechanical behavior of pultruded FRP double-lap specimens combined by only FRP bolt as well as both FRP bolt and adhesive under tension tests was investigated by finite element method and experimental data. Two kinds of used adhesive were high strength adhesive and low elastic one. Results show that comparing with bolt-only specimens, connections with both FRP bolt and adhesive had the higher joint strength. Specimens with high strength adhesive had the highest joint strength but the shear out failure and delamination at FRP plates happened suddenly while the low elastic adhesive specimens witnessed the debonding failure and shear out failure alternately in the both sides of connections. - In this paper, an experimental study was carried out to investigate the remaining performance of frictional high strength bolted joints in an existing weathering steel bridge used for thirty years. Bolt axial forces, slip coefficients and slip strengths were measured for the real bolted joint specimens cut from the bridge to carry out a slip test and a bolt calibration test. The results of these tests showed that remaining bolt axial forces of many bolts were less than the design bolt axial force but the slip coefficients were more than the design value. - This paper aims to investigate dynamic characteristics of an FRP truss pedestrian bridge in service by means of field vibration test and eigenvalue analysis. Pedestrian-induced vibrations are also measured and utilized to identify dynamic parameters of the bridge. A multivariate autoregressive model combined with stabilization diagram was utilized to identify modal properties of the bridge. Every node of the bridge is reinforced by stainless steel plate, and FE models considering the reinforcement by increasing Youg's modulus led to comparable frequencies and mode shapes to those from observed in the test. Moreover as a boundary condition at both ends fix model resulted in a comparable modal properties to experimental ones. - The purpose of this research is to assess structural parameters such as aspect ratio, plate slenderness parameter and flange web thickness ratio of shear panel damper on the seismic performance of multi-pipe integrated bridge pier originally proposed by Hanshin expressway corporation for further development. In this research, FE analytical model were constructed based on the experimental results for the real scale shear panel damper of the pier. Based on results of the FE analysis the new relationship of limit shear strain of the shear panel to plate slenderness parameter was proposed. - Clustering stud shear connectors with minimized spacing based on specifications to form group studs are useful for concrete slab prefabrication and prestress installation efficiency in steel-concrete composite bridges. To date, many long-span composite bridge girders have been designed with wide transverse cantilevers and web spacing, and most of these girders use group studs. The concrete's self-weight and the weight of moving loads result in a significant transverse bending-induced effect generally consisting of bending stresses and tensile concrete cracks. In this sense, the studs are actually under longitudinal interlayer shear force that is influenced by the transverse bending-induced effect. This biaxial loading effect has not been investigated experimentally. Thus, standard and newly designed push-out tests and corresponding analyses were carried out. In addition, the stud arrangement effect also was of concern. In this study, the ratio of stud height to shank diameter was approximately 6.2. This study found that steel-concrete interlayer friction and biaxial concrete compression around the stud roots contribute to a favorable effect of biaxial loading on stud performance. However, the residual tensile concrete cracks are unfavorable. Engineers should note the tendency toward mechanical degradation of studs when such a situation occurs. Moreover, arranging studs in clusters to form group studs may lead to comparatively more severe concrete damage at the ultimate stage. The specification-based evaluations of stud strength were found to be more or less conservative based on related test results. - In this research, to study the thermal behavior such as thermal stress and deformation of composite bridges with a SRC structure, a field measurement and a FE analysis were carried out for the composite trussed rohze bridge constructed by using weathering steel. In the field test, the temperatures of the surface on the bridge members were measured by an infrared camera. And then, FE analysis model was constructed by the temperature data of the field test, and FE analysis was carried out to investigate the thermal stress and deformation due to changing the thermal condition. The field test showed the value of measured temperature difference was higher than the design value. - Numerous fatigue cracks were observed recently in orthotropic steel bridge decks that have been in service for a long period of time. A fatigue crack initiating from the rib-to-deck (RD) joint may especially produce asphalt surfacing damage, and hence have an impact on traffic safety. In fatigue evaluation of RD joints, in most current design specifications the asphalt surfacing is just treated as a layer dispersing wheel loads, in which the wheel loads are uniformly distributed on the deck plate and the effect of the composite stiffness of the deck plate and asphalt surfacing is neglected. In this study, comprehensive finite-element and load models were used to investigate the asphalt surfacing influence on the wheel load dispersal and composite stiffness. The analysis result shows that wheel loads are not uniformly distributed on deck plates but are concentrated on the weld joints, the asphalt surfacing could significantly decrease the stress magnitude around the RD joints, and this decrease may mainly result from composite stiffness rather than load dispersal. The effective stresses of RD joints, and their fatigue evaluation indicate that the fatigue life of RD joints could be drastically improved by asphalt surfacing. However, on the other hand, the fatigue life is shortened considerably by the effects of temperature. Moreover, the type of fatigue crack initiating from the weld root may also be influenced by the asphalt surfacing. - Corrosion damages have been frequently occurrd at end parts of steel girders. So it is frequently used for repair and strengthening works of steel bridges that adding the bracket members, patch plates with epoxy resin. As girder end has narrow space, it is required the simple and rational repair method of the steel girder end with the corrosion damage. In order to make clear load carrying capacity of a steel girder with corrosion damage at the girder end and repaired steel girders, the loading experiments has been carried out. The specimens modelled a steel girder end which are designed with actual size are prepared. - Recently in seismic retrofitting or strengthening for not only ordinal steel bridges but also weathering steel bridges, new steel members are connected by high strength bolts. But it is little known that slip coefficient and treatment method of contact surfaces of the weathering steel bridge and the new ordinal steel members. Therefore to show the slip coefficient of the high strength frictional bolted joints with two different treated contact surface between the weathering steel and the ordinal steel, slip test was conducted. - Changes in Modal Parameters of a Steel Truss Bridge due to Artificial DamageThis study investigated how damage changes the modal parameters of a real bridge by means of a field experiment which was conducted on a real steel truss bridge consecutively subjected to four artificial damage scenarios. In the experiment, both the forced and free vibrations of the bridge were recorded, the former for identifying higher modes available exclusively and the latter for lower modes with higher resolution. Results show that modal parameters are little affected by damage causing low stress redistribution. Modal frequencies decrease as damage causing high stress redistribution is applied; such a change can be observed if the damage is at the non-nodal point of the corresponding mode shape. Mode shapes are distorted due to asymmetric damage; they show an amplification in the damaged side as damage is applied at the non-nodal point. - In this study, to show the impact coefficient and stress redistribution of steel truss bridges when truss members of the bridges fracture, a field test used existing steel truss bridge was conducted. To measure the dynamic force responses of the members in the fracture test, the dynamic strains of the members were measured by dynamic data loggers. The truss members which were a middle vertical member and a neighbor vertical member of the bridge were cut off by gas cutter. - In this study, to investigate frictional behavior and maximum strength of GFRP members connected by high strength bolts and splice plates made of stainless or GFRP plates, slip test and bolt relaxation test are carried out. And FE analysis is executed to study on mechanism of stress concentration. From the slip test, slip coefficient of the specimen with stainless splice plates is lager than 0.4 and it is found that the slip coefficient can calculate by toribology theory. From the FE analysis, the maximum strength of the GFRP firictional bolted joint can estimate based on consideration of stress concentration. - Many steel structures have been faced to the problem of superannuation in Japan. Severe damages will be caused in these structures subjected to huge earthquakes. It is necessary to secure safety of these structures to such earthquakes. Two-dimensional horizontal behavior of seismic response of structures with damages by corrosion has been hardly researched. Therefore, in this study experiments and numerical analyses intended for rectangular steel bridge piers with damages in the corners were conducted in order to evaluate two-dimensional behavior. - In this paper, in order to study on bending behaviors of a riveted steel girder with corrosion damage at heads of some rivets, bending loading tests are carried out. The steel girders used as specimens were cut out from the bridge that had been used for 55 years. Considering the results of the bending experiment, it is found that the initial rigidity of the specimen with the rivet heads corroded is decreased a little. - Steel plates with varied thickness have a potential for rationalization of steel bridge design. For example, longitudinally profiled steel plates already have been adapted to flanges of an I-shaped girder / a box girder to reduce the weight of the bridge and the process of bridge construction. Recently, the analytical study on the mechanical behavior of steel girders with a transversely profiled web plate has been carried out, and it has been concluded that there exists the preferable cross sectional shape of steel plate from the viewpoint of the load carrying capacity and ductility. In this paper, the static loading tests for I-shaped girders with a profiled web plate in thickness are carried out. - CFT (Concrete Filled Steel Tubular members) has attracted much attention because of its structural superiority. However, the increase of weight by filling with concrete inside is one of problem associated with CFT. Thus in this study, to reduce the self-weight of CFT, CFDT (Concrete Filled Double-Skin Steel Tubular members) is proposed particularly for higher bridge piers. The purpose of this study is to clarify the influence of the thickness of outer and inner steel tubes on the bending characteristics by the cyclic loading test and the analysis. As a result, it is shown by the cyclic loading test that CFDT has higher bending strength and energy absorption than CFT of the same weight. CFDT without inner tube has sufficient bending strength, but after the crush of the concrete, its ductility declines like only outer tube. By the constraint effect of concrete, buckling of inner tube is prevented, so the thickness of inner tube can be thin. - To provide the background informations for performance-based design of joining for FRP structures and FRP bonding for steel structures, the subcommittee on investigation research of joining of FRP and steel at committee on Hybrid Structures in Japan Society of Civil Engineers investigated the current researches, the design standards and the examples of joining design for FRP structures and FRP bonded steel structures for over two years. This report presents a summary of accomplishment report of "Advanced technologies of joining for FRP structures and FRP bonding for steel structures", Hybrid structure report 09 by subcommittee. - Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Kyoto University, 01 Apr. 2021 - 31 Mar. 2024Investigation on the relationship between visual inspection results and remaining performance of existing civil FRP structures令和3年度は,(1)FRPの変状,非破壊検査,補修に関する文献調査,(2)既設土木FRP構造物の実態調査,(3)FRP歩道橋床版の外観調査・非破壊検査と残存性能評価を実施した. まず,文献調査を実施し,FRPの変状を分類した.機械的な変状とそれ以外に分類し,機械的な変状には,割れ,圧壊,剥離,接着剤・樹脂の養生不足,へこみ,空隙,過度な変形,ボルト接合部のゆるみや腐食などを,それ以外として,汚れ,かび,変色,光沢の消失,繊維の露出などを分類した.非破壊検査については,これまでにFRPの欠陥検出や健全度評価に利用されたものは,非常に多岐にわたるが,調査の結果,本研究では,打音検査,超音波検査,透水試験などを実際に使用することとした. 既設土木FRP構造物の実態調査は,コロナの影響で,多くの構造物の調査が現状では実施できていないが,土木研究所の歩道橋,FRP水門等の構造物の調査を実施し,変状について観察するとともに,FRP構造物の点検時に,点検調査票に記載すべき事項について検討を行った. 土木研究所で約23年間暴露されているFRP歩道橋の床版部材から材料試験片を切り出し,引張(0度,90度),圧縮(0度,90度),45度引張試験を実施することで,暴露面および下面の物性値の変化を定量的に明らかにした.0度方向(引抜方向)では,引張・圧縮共に暴露なしと比較して,最大で約20%程度の強度低下が見られた.90度方向では,引張試験で最大35%程度の強度低下が見られ,暴露面での低下が大きかった.90度方向の圧縮強度は大きな変化は見られなかった.45度引張試験より,せん断強度は,暴露により最大約30%の低下が見られた.すべてにおいて,弾性率の変化は小さかった.また,床版材料について,外観観察,および超音波検査により音速の測定を実施した.
