    初年度である2020年度は、活動が実際に可能となったのが2021年1月であっため、研究方針を示す第一回ワークショップ「イスラーム文明的国家体系の解明にむけて」を2月18日に開催、3月5日のイスラーム信頼学キックオフシンポジウムにおいても、代表者の近藤が「宗派的分断を乗り越える戦略知：外交，戦争，イスラーム法」という題で報告を行った。さらに、3月24日にはワークショップ「条約体制と国際法」を開催し、分担者の堀井が「近世前半期オスマン・ヴェネツィア条約体制の規範構造」、分担者の沖が「19世紀のエジプトにおける近代国際法の受容」という題で報告を行った。近代以前のムスリム諸国とヨーロッパ諸国の間の「条約（アフド・ナーメ）」がどのようなものであったか、19世紀においてムスリム諸国がどのように新しい西洋の国際法を受容したかが論じられた。これらの報告により、条約や外交を基礎にイスラーム文明のコネクティビティを考察するというプロジェクトの基本スタイルが確立した。これ以外に、イスラーム信頼学の計画研究班C01と共催のワークショップを4回、A01班との共催のワークショップを1回開催し、また、総括班主催の国際シンポジウムの構想を立案することで、イスラーム信頼学プロジェクト全体に貢献した。 コロナ禍により予定していた海外調査がほとんどできず、唯一、繰越金により2021年度末に短期間トルコで行ったのみであった。研究文献はもっぱらデジタルライブラリーと海外からの購入を中心に収集した。

    本研究の目的は、近世南アジア史の現地語資料から得られる歴史情報の多角的な意味づけに資するという観点から、ポルトガル関係資料を体系的に利用するための基礎を構築することである。本研究の対象は、ポルトガル王国インド領にかかるポルトガル語の記録文書・編纂資料群、およびポルトガル国王の布教保護権のもと南アジアで行われたカトリック宣教にかかるポルトガル語・スペイン語・ラテン語・イタリア語の記録文書・編纂資料群の二つである。いずれについても公刊・未公刊の資料群から、16世紀以降18世紀初頭までにわたる近世南アジアの現地語資料との対照に資するものを体系的・網羅的に整理する。ポルトガル関係資料の全体像を把握することで、その史料論を確立し、近世南アジア史の現地語資料に対する有意の参考系たるべき資料群としての基礎を構築する。 2021年度においてはまず、図書として刊行されている南アジア史・ポルトガル関係の一次資料と二次資料の購入を開始して、研究の初動に資する基礎資料を整備した（設備備品費）。併せて電子媒体の二次資料も整備した（その他）。また研究代表者のもとに整備済みのマイクロフィルムや状態の悪い版本などをデジタルスキャンに付して整理した（その他）。電子データ化済の資料は、精密な閲読の前提とするべく、その内容に応じて、テキストデータ化、インデクスあるいはタグ付加などの整理・入力をアルバイトに行わせた（謝金）。本年度は、在リスボン（ポルトガル）のトッレ・ド・トンボ国立文書館、アジュダ博物館、海外史文書館の所蔵資料の実地調査に赴く予定だったが、感染症の状況によりこれは来年度以降に延期し、上記の図書資料や資料の電子化、データ整理等の作業に注力して、研究を進展させた。

    This project discussed political authority in Islam, such as the Caliphate and the kingship. When one writes a history of the Islamic World, one tends to write a history of one mainline, starts from Prophet Muhammad, and continues with the Rashidun Caliphs, the Umayyads, the ‘Abbasids, the Mamluks, and the Ottomans. These rulers, except the Prophet, are described as caliphs or sultans. However, this narrative is too simplistic to describe the whole world of Islam and is mostly affected by religious creed. This project tried to highlight other views on Islamic kingship in other regions. In Anatolia, Iran, Central Asia, and North India, after 1258, the term sultan was used by the rulers. However, they used other titles, too, and some of the claims were related to the Caliphate. The term of sacred kingship, first proposed by John Woods in 1998, is more suitable for the rulers of these regions.

  • Formation and structural development of Eurasian empires: Comparative historical research on the relationships between monarchies and military elites

    In our program, we attempted to carry out a comparative historical research on the relationship between pre-modern Eurasian empires and their military subordinates who were from different ethnic groups and had different cultural backgrounds. We made six empires as the subject of our research: Islamic Empire of `Abbasid dynasty, Turk (Tu-jue) Empire, and Tang Empire in the medieval period; Mughal Empire, Safavid Empire, and Manchu-Qing Empire in the early modern period. We clearly showed that (1) military elites and military organizations of foreign origin played an important role for each empire, (2) they generally originated in the geographical, cultural, and ethnic border areas, and (3) especially they closely related to monarchs and their courts.

    The ideas of the prominent Indian scholar Ahmad Sirhindi (1564-1624) and the activities of numerous religious groups led by his followers known as Mujaddidiyya have had a great influence on Islamic communities in various regions since the 17th century by providing foundations for Islamic revolutionary ideology and giving rise to Islamic revolutionary movements. Within the framework of this research, the author has visited India, Turkey,Uzbekistan and the north-western regions of China to collect extant local primary sources necessary for studying the life and thoughts of Ahmad Sirhindi and, at the same time, to conduct field research on the Mujaddidiyya groups still active in these regions, which led to clarifying each group’s specific features as a religious organization and specific social forms they take in different localities, thus laying a general basis for studies aimed at a better understanding of the Mujaddidiyya.

The fields of our studies were on four Eurasian empires including: Islamic Empire of `Abbasid dynasty, Mughal Empire, Safavid Empire, and Manchu-Chinese Empire of Qing dynasty. We cleary showed the historical importance of (1) servility of military subordinates towards their masters, which represented itself as loyalty, and (2) the meanings or effects of "otherness" of these military subordinates who came across the border on their functions as military elites.

    I, the project leader, have procured a number of reproductions of historiographical materials which are yet to be published and preserved in the libraries in Pakistan, the United Kingdom, France and so on. Focusing on the Islamic network over the Indian Ocean as reflected in the Meccan pilgrimage of the Indian Muslims, the development of the Persian literary culture in the South Asia, the formation and development of the concept of Indian history in the Indo-Islamicate society, and the Islamic conversion in the South Asian history, the project leader published new findings about the aspects of the Islamization of the South Asian societies.

    The aim of this research project is to shed light on the significance of "associations" in society on the interdisciplinary common base of the humanities-sociology, literature and history. Our main research fields are France, UK, India, USA and Japan. By applying a wider concept of "associations", we have brought to light the diversity of "associations" and the validity of the frame of "associations" for the research on human activities in society. Taking into consideration the context of the historical development as well as the comparative point of view of localities, we have clarified the importance of "associations" in society.

    研究計画に従ってペルシア語関連史料、および現地の歴史叙述に関する資料の収集、および現地歴史研究者との交流を行った。代表の近藤信彰は、8月にタジキスタン、2月にイランインドへ出張し、ペルシア語文化関連資料を収集するとともに、現地の研究者との交流に努めた。 タジキスタンでは、17世紀末の詩人伝Muzakkir al-Ashabなど現地発行の図書を入手した。同じペルシア語をいえがら、イランと異なった文字を使用するタジキスタンの現状は、ペルシア語文化圏のあり方を考える上で示唆に富んでいた。 イランでは、サファヴィー朝のインシャー文献写本4点のコピーを入手した。サファヴィー朝後期の書簡集やインシャー文献はその重要性が指摘されながらも、十分な研究がなされていない。新たに議会図書館から刊行れたMonsha'at-e Soleymaniとともに、これは今後の制度史研究の基盤となるものである。 研究分担者の菅原睦は、3月にトルコに出張し、ペルシア語の影響を強く受けているチャガタイ言語学関係の資料収集と研究者との交流に努めた。 なお、最終年度にあたって、以前からの課題であった『ペルシア語が結んだ世界-もうひとつのユーラシア史』が刊行された。研究代表者・分担者全員が執筆したものであり、今後の研究の出発点となるものである。4年間の研究成果を踏まえて、さらに進展した研究を、来年度中に形とすることを目標としたい。

    文化接触、特にそこから生じる宗教文化の変容を、理論と歴史的事例の検討の両面を通じて考究した。具体的には、複数の宗教文化が接触、融合、衝突する領域において、いかなる文化変容が生じるのか、その結果として生じる宗教文化の重層性と多様性は社会にどのように影響を与えるのか、という問題設定を行い、歴史的中央アジアを舞台に、その社会的・政治的・経済的要因と、結果として生じた宗教表象の諸相を考察することを目指して研究を進め、国際学会の開催、成果刊行などの成果をおさめた。

    1.各文明における原典の状況を文明横断的に解明、過去半世紀間の各文明における古典学の総括及び古典学全体に対する大局的総括、古典形成の一般理論を確立などのために、今年度は計4回の研究会議を開催した(7月・11月・11月・12月、東京3回・京都1回)。毎回1名〜4名(計10名)の研究者が各文明における原典について報告し、それに基づき出席者全員で討論を行った。出席者は延べ計約120名。 2.会議で報告された文明の内訳は、日本1名、中国3名、インド2名、チベット1名、中央アジア2名、イスラム1名。内、中国の2名は、北京師範大学周桂鈿教授と山東大学鄭傑文教授を招聘、現代最先端の中国古典学の現状と課題を報告してもらった。それ以外の、日本・中国・インド・チベット・中央アジア・イスラムの報告もみな、過去半世紀間の世界と日本の各文明における、原典の存在・保存の状況、原典研究の現状と歴史的総括、新しい方法論の提唱と検討、日本の研究者の役割などに関して、大きな問題提起を行った。また、古典学全体に対しても大局的な総括を行って21世紀の新たな古典学の方向を見出すべく努力したが、この方面では我々のやり残した課題はまだ多いと言わなければならない。 3.昨年度に引き続いて今年度も、古典形成の一般理論の確立に向けて模索するという目的のために、諸文明の相異を超えた共通点として、原典の形成に対する口承・伝承・説話・神話と筆写・写本の持つ意義、原典の有する規範性の内容・性質や強弱などについての報告・討論を重点的に行った。 4.原典の内外における写本・版本の調査を進め、電子機器を用いてそれらをデータ・ベース化するために、新たにパソコン1台を購入した。また今年度は本研究プロジェクトの最終年度に当たるので、原典班論文集を出版したが、その入力・出力や編集作業のために学生・嘱託アルバイトを多数使った。

  • チャガタイ・トルコ語、ペルシャ語文献の諸写本研究

    本年度は真下が、昨年度の学会発表をもとにムガル朝時代の文人アサド・ベグの回想録についての研究をまとめた。そこでは文献学的な写本研究の結果として校訂テキストの底本としてアーンドラプラデーシュ州東洋写本図書館所蔵本に拠るべきことを明らかにした。さらにこの回想録の史料価値に関する歴史学的研究の結果として、他の諸史料の内容との比較からこの回想録が他には見られない独自のかつ信頼しうる貴重な一次的情報を伝えていることを明らかにした(MASHITA2002)。また2002年12月の原典班の研究会議では写本研究の知見を踏まえ「イスラームにおける古典」というテーマで、イスラーム文明における古典テキストの伝達の意義と背景について簡単な報告を行なった。また昨年度までに収集してあった諸写本のマイクロフィルムのうち、なお数多く残っていた未整理のものに集中的に取り組んだ結果、その過半をデジタル的に焼付けて電算機上で処理することができるようになった。焼付けデータの一部については解読・テキストデータ入力を進め、研究に利用しているところである。 また間野は、大英図書館(英国・ロンドン)、フランス国立図書館(フランス・パリ)に出張し、以前より研究を継続している『バーブル・ナーマ』のチャガタイ・トルコ語の写本1点と二種類のペルシア語訳の写本それぞれ1点計3点を調査し、それぞれについてマイクロフィルム複写を将来した。フィルムはすべてすぐに焼き付け、現在解読作業を進行させているところである。【以上、636字】

  • FORMATION OF THE BUDDHIST CAVE TEMPLE

    1. The main aim of this project is to try to understand the cave monastery as reflecting an overall image of a certain historical society in association with various disciplines of the humanities. It also stand on the criticism of those who deal with cave monasteries as local cultural unity. 2. In parallel with digitalizing the black/white photographs of cave temples and the color photographs of the mural paintings in Afghanistan such as Bamiyan, Foladeh, Kakrak . and Fil Khana, the structure of caves in Bamiyan was successfully analyzed in comparison with those in Kucha and other Cental Asian examples. 3. The overall architectural reassessment of the Taxila Buddhist monaseries has been set out typologically reexamining the masonries of each cult building in relation to the general planning of monasteries. The work seems successful for a chronological rearrangement of Buddhist activities throughout ages especially in the visual aspect of temple, and for a better understanding of general development of monastic life. 4. The date of the colossi in Bamiyan has variously been given without firm ground of evidence. This grant-in-aid project has made it possible to get access to all of the Chinese and Muslim literary sources and therefore a historical circumstance of Bamiyan has potentially emerged from such evidence. This has facilitated a new date for Bamiyan, which is published together with other important things in a separate booklet.

  • イスラム時代インドにおける歴史史料の文献学的研究(制度史史料を中心に)

    研究代表者は今年度、昨年度中に入手した、行政業務要領ジャンル『ダストゥール・アルアマル』の諸写本のマイクロフィルム複写の整理・検討を継続した。また十六世紀に成立した宮廷典範書『アーイーニ・アクバリー』の一部を、校訂本と良写本のテキストとの批判的な校合を行いつつ、電算機入力を行った。その一部はすでに研究に利用している。 その成果の一部として、[論2]を発表し、ムガル朝アクバル時代のある主要な歴史書に見える年代の錯誤について論じ、その史料についての写本研究の必要性を示した。これは、ムガル朝時代の制度史研究にかかわる基礎作業のひとつである。また[論1]においては、本来「ティムール」朝である上記王朝が、インドにおいて「ムガル」朝と呼ばれた背景をさまざまな史料から論じた。王朝の系譜意識にかかわるこの問題は、制度史研究にも密接に関係する。 またアクバル時代の貴族によってペルシア語で書かれた回想録『アフワーレ・アサド・ベグ』について、すでに別の経費で入手してあったマイクロフィルム複写を参照して、検討した。制度史研究の上でも重要なこの史料は、いまだ公刊されていないため、その批判校訂本の刊行を視野に、研究を行った。これに関して、未見の同書の写本を閲覧するため、インド、ハイデラーバードのアーンドラ・プラデーシュ州政府東洋写本図書館に赴いた。その結果、同図書館所蔵の写本が、現存するもののうちではもっとも古く、かつテキストも正確な良写本であることが判明した。同写本については、滞在期間中にすべて手写し、ごく一部について電子複写の提供を受けた。 また、個々の制度史関係史料の調査において、研究代表者の属する機関にて利用できない文献の調査のために、東京大学などにおもむき、いくつかの資料については複写の提供を受けた。 【以上、754字。文中、[論1]等は、次頁項目11の研究発表論文に対応。「論」は雑誌論文。数字は登場順。】
