- Development of Cavity-Detecting Test Method Using Pneumatic Pressure to Identify Weak Parts of River Levee長大な河川堤防において堤体直下の基礎地盤に局所的に潜在する高透水層,水ミチ等の弱点箇所を抽出することは,連続堤としての安全性を把握する上で,極めて重要である.著者らは堤体直下の不飽和透水性地盤を対象に,弱点箇所の連続性を把握する新たな調査法として「空気圧を用いた連通試験」を考案し,試験装置プロトタイプを製作した.また,実証実験を繰り返し実施し,試験装置の改良を行ってきた.本報では改良前後の試験結果,試験装置の改良点,同手法の実用化に向けた今後の課題について報告する.地盤工学会中国支部, Dec. 2018, Ground Engineering, 36(1) (1), 71 - 78, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal

- STUDY ON THE INFLUENCE OF NONUNIFORMITY IN AQUIFER THERMAL ENERGY SYSTEM帯水層熱エネルギーシステム(ATES)は,揚水および環水の2 本の井戸を設置することにより帯水層内の熱エネルギーを有効に利用するものであるが,適切な揚水量・揚水温度等を予測・推定するには帯水層内の熱輸送解析が必要となる.このような熱輸送解析の際には通常は地盤物性値等は空間的に均一と仮定され,実際の帯水層に見られる不均一性は考慮されない.本研究では,透水係数の空間分布モデルを用いて疑似的にばらつきと偏りのある帯水層を生成し,熱に関する移流分散解析によって揚水・環水時における不均一帯水層内の温度変化の性質について検討した.その結果,不均一場においては均一場と比較して巨視的分散により揚水温度が上昇および下降するタイミングが早くなることを示した.Japan Society of Civil Engineers, Nov. 2018, Journal of JSCE B1, 75(5) (5), I_337 - I_342, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal
- 不均一浸透場における陽イオン交換反応を伴う2次元断面の反応輸送実験で得られた破過曲線に対して,連続時間ランダムウォーク(CTRW)による再現を試みた。単一ピークであれば,特殊な形状でも通常のCTRWによって曲線の概形とテーリングなどを概ね再現可能であった。異常拡散の度合いを表すパラメータは,ほとんど0.8< <2.0となり,実際の多孔媒体において異常拡散に近い挙動を示していると考えられると判断された。多峰性の破過曲線は,代表的な流路が複数出現したことに対応しており,そのような場合は,流路ごとに分割してフィッティングする必要がある。Japanese Association of Groundwater Hydrology, Aug. 2018, Journal of Groundwater Hydrology, 60(3) (3), 305 - 315, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal
- NUMERICAL STUDY ON SEEPAGE FLOW IN SLOPE AT HEAVY RAIN CONSIDERING NON-UNIFORMITY AND PORE AIR FLOW豪雨時の斜面崩壊の誘因となる地盤内の水分量や水位・水圧分布については,浸透流解析による予測/推定がある程度可能であるが,通常は地盤物性値等は空間的に均一と仮定され,実際の斜面に見られる不均一性は考慮されない.本研究では,透水係数の空間分布モデルを用いて疑似的にばらつきと偏りのある不均一斜面を生成し,気液2相流解析によって間隙空気を考慮した豪雨時の斜面内浸透流の性質について検討した.その結果,均一場を仮定することによって斜面内の間隙水圧を過小評価する可能性があること,また,間隙空気の影響は,不均一場でより大きくなる可能性があることを示した.公益社団法人 土木学会, Feb. 2018, 土木学会論文集B1(水工学), 74(4) (4), I_7 - I_12, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal
- MULTI-LEVEL DILUTION TEST AND NUMERICAL EVALUATION OF THE HYDRAULIC PARAMETERS DISTRIBUTION数値計算により地下水汚染等について検討する場合,透水係数や分散係数といった水理パラメータの設定が重要である.本研究では,硝酸性窒素による地下水汚染の生じている現場において,単孔式の多深度希釈試験を適用し,地下水の実流速や透水係数,分散係数を評価した.さらに,現場で得られた情報をもとに人工的に発生させた不均一場に対して単孔式の多深度希釈試験について3次元の数値計算を実施した.その結果,不均一性を考慮することで,現場で得られたトレーサー濃度低減の様子を再現できる可能性があることが分かった.公益社団法人 土木学会, Feb. 2018, 土木学会論文集B1(水工学), 74(4) (4), I_19 - I_24, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal
- DETECTION OF IMPERMEABLE STRUCTURE IN SUBSURFACE USING SURFACE THERMAL IMAGES本研究では,地下水流動の不均一性と水文地質構造を把握する一手法として,地表面温度分布の熱画像を利用する方法について検討した.実験には,ガラス球を充填した水平浸透水槽を用いた.岩盤などの地下の不透水性構造を模擬した塩化ビニル製のブロックを浸透槽の下層に配置した後,ガラス球を充填し,所定の厚さのガラス球層を敷き詰め,60℃に調整し,着色した温水を熱トレーサーとして注入した.実験の結果,熱トレーサーが不透水性ブロックを迂回したり,その影響が明らかなケースが見受けられた.すなわち,不透水性構造が地表面温度分布に影響を与えることが確認された.また上層のガラス球層が薄いほど,不透水性構造および水みちの検出が可能であることが示唆された.公益社団法人 土木学会, Sep. 2017, 土木学会論文集G(環境), 73(5) (5), I_1 - I_8, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal

- Disasters, often addressed as 'urban flooding', has been frequent in recent years and one of the mitigation measures include the rainwater permeation into the ground through infiltration facilities. The rationale for selecting suitable area for infiltration facilities has been studied by Shibuya et al. (2013) by means of a three-dimensional regional groundwater flow analysis of a target city (City A) by applying the general values of hydraulic conductivity parameters for saturated soils to the rainwater infiltration layer. As a continuing leg of the same research, in-situ soil parameters, such as, suction and soil moisture for the unsaturated surface infiltration layer were evaluated in this study. This 3-D ground model was constructed by using soil borehole and GIS data. The wide area 3D regional groundwater flow analysis was then carried out by using soil parameters evaluated in the field. The analysis output of the model matched closely to the actual groundwater level in the field and become more accurate than that in the previous study, when general soil parameters were used. - Geotechnical engineers are increasingly concerned with embankment failures induced by heavy rainfalls. In an attempt to reduce the risk for embankment failures, geotechnical engineers have recently proposed an L-shaped geodrain system with which seepage water flow into the embankment may be prevented even in the event of heavy rainfalls. In the conventional research, the vertical drain material has been arranged to form a straight line. In geotechnical engineering practice, however, the vertical drain may conveniently be mounted in a form of alternate arrangement. Moreover it is assumed that water level of the side of embankments is always constant. In this paper, the effects of water level repression in embankment is discussed when the vertical drain material is set to be alternate arrangement. And also the applicability of a simple estimate equation is examined. - Soil hydraulic properties in field scale porous media are distributed with large spatial heterogeneity. Thus, detailed understanding of micro-physical properties leading to macro-scale heterogeneity is important for generalizing purposes in modeling. Hysteretic water retention properties greatly affect solute transport under unsaturated condition. In this study, laboratory infiltration experiments were carried out to investigate the importance of hysteresis in numerical modeling of water flow under heterogeneous distribution of hydraulic conductivity. Soil water content was observed by time domain reflectometry using small printed circuit board probes (PCBP). The PCBP observations were compared to results from numerical simulations involving saturated-unsaturated seepage analysis and two-phase flow with/without hysteresis effects. Observations were compared to both uniform and heterogeneous parameter modeling. Differences between unsaturated-saturated and two-phase flow were quite small in the numerical results for soil water content. The uniform parameter model, however, could not properly reproduce experimental water content change. The numerical results of water content change including hysteresis matched better observations for the unsaturated-saturated and two-phase flow cases. - Illegal dumping at the mountainside is one of serious problem in Japan. However, the conventional approaches to the groundwater pollution problem mainly focus on the urban area or flat land. In this study, it was investigated that the change of water content and solute transport caused by rainfall infiltration in the model slope by experiment and numerical analysis. The results show that the change of pore pressure was reproduced well by numerical analysis, and peak value of the concentration at the points near the source was also reproduced well. - Quantitative evaluation of macroscopic longitudinal dispersivity for one-dimensional flowMacroscopic dispersivity is the most important factor for analysing the convection-dispersion equation (CDE) at the field scale, and it is well known that macroscopic dispersivities vary with the scale of observation. In this study, artificial heterogeneous hydraulic conductivity fields were generated with the stochastic fractal model (f(zeta) model). Macroscopic dispersivities were evaluated for two-dimensional stochastic, isotropic and anisotropic fields by performing dimensionless CDE simulations. The results showed that macroscopic dispersivity depends on the length of the contaminant source and the travel distances, as well as on field characteristics such as variability of hydraulic conductivity for one-dimensional flow. We proposed simple models for quantitatively evaluating the average values of macroscopic longitudinal dispersivity by performing two-dimensional numerical experiments. - Knowledge of seawater intrusion to aquifer is very important for the efficient use of groundwater in coastal area. Conventional numerical simulation for seawater intrusion was mainly performed in uniform porous media. However it is known that hydraulic conductivity varies spatially. The objective of this paper is to investigate a seawater intrusion behavior in non-uniform porous media by numerical simulation using the spatial distribution model for hydraulic conductivity. The results show that the length of seawater intrusion is affected by the shape of permeability distribution. - Mitigating embankment failure due to heavy rainfall using L-shaped geosynthetic drain (LGD)In recent years, geotechnical engineers in Japan confront frequently with the embankment failure induced by heavy rainfall. For the purpose of mitigating such embankment failure, Shibuya et al. (2008) has recently proposed a remedial measure to protect embankment from the invasion of seepage water flow by using L-shaped geosynthetic drain (LGD). In this paper, the effectiveness of LGD system in preventing the seepage flow into the embankment is demonstrated by performing a series of numerical analysis. The behavior of a large-scale test embankment (3.9 m long, 2 m wide and 2.5 m high) subjected to seepage flow from the back of the fill was also examined in the laboratory. The significance of the LCD was manifested by performing a couple of comparative tests with and without the LCD. The seepage flow characteristics of the test fill was interpreted by comparing the test result with the result of numerical analysis. - Hydrogeological parameters of field soil porous media are distributed with large heterogeneity. Evaluation of physical heterogeneity effects on soil water flow is important to understand basic flow characteristics of field soil. In this study, two types of water infiltration experiments were carried out to examine water flow under the heterogeneous distribution of hydraulic conductivities. Soil water change was measured by time domain reflectometry (TDR) using small printed circuit board probes (PCBP). To evaluate soil water distribution change in the experimental sand box, the simple image analysis of digital photo of the experiments was applied. In order to understand detailed water and air flow in the experiments, numerical simulations were carried out. In the numerical simulations, ordinary unsaturated-saturated seepage analysis and two-phase flow analysis were compared. Moreover, hysteresis effects on the soil water content change were also examined. Apparent differences between unsaturated-saturated and two-phase analyses were not observed in the results of water content change. - L-shaped geodrain in embankment model test and numerical simulationAn embankment is usually made of unsaturated soil. Unsaturated soil when properly compacted is stiff and strong, since it sustains the matrix suction. The soil suction disappears quickly in the process of wetting, which in turn brings about large deformation or even failure of the embankment. In order to prevent seepage flow into the embankment, and also accumulation of water behind it. Design for an L-shaped geodrain in the embankment is proposed in this paper. A numerical simulation was carried out to examine the efficiency of the L-shaped geodrain system. - In this study, the stochastic properties of concentration distribution in advection dispersion phenomenon in the non-uniform field ware investigated by using Monte-Carlo simulation, and methods of stochastic risk evaluation were examined. The results showed that the probability distribution of concentration in non-uniform field was accorded to the β distribution. And the variance of concentration could be estimated by the method that the parameter β was assumed to be the exponential function of expected value. Thus, once the expected value of concentration was evaluated, the probability distribution function of concentration could be reproduced. - It is known that observed macroscopic dispresivity depends on observation scale, so that a single value cannot represent the field property for dispersion. In this study, numerical simulations of the advection dispersion phenomena in various random-permeability fields generated by using stochastic fractal model were carried out to investigate the relationship between spatial distributions of hydraulic conductivity and dispersivity. The results show that various concentration distributions occur even when the hydraulic conductivities of flow fields are statistically the same. - Two-phase flow simulation of water scaling of compressed air storage under cyclic pressure change in an unlined rock cavernNumerical simulations of two-phase flow through a porous medium were performed to understand the dynamic behaviour of the air that seeped out of an unlined cavern adopted for CAES (Compressed Air Energy Storage) in a saturated rock mass. In some cases, the pressure in the cavern is expected to change periodically due to daily or weekly usage of the compressed air. When the pressure is lowered, the amount of groundwater flowing into the cavern increases. If the water supply is insufficient, the air leakage might be induced. This study also investigated the effects of the periodic change in the air pressure on the water sealing of compressed air. - Identification of a short-term storm drainage prediction model in a small watershedThe main purpose of runoff analysis on short-term storm drainage is to have a runoff model with which it can be possible to forecast storm floods. Tank model is one of the practical models for the estimation of the effective storm drainage that will be generated from a given rainfall in the short term within a small catchment area. For a workable model to be proposed, a number of known rainfall and flow data are used first to determine values of the parameters that define the model. These parameters are representative of one form or the other of the actual rainfall-runoff scenario. For most of the events used in this study, there was significant reproduction of the observed hydrographs especially around the peak which was the characteristic of the storm flood that was of much interest. However, in each case the parameters determined were not the same. Due to this, the choice of the exact model among the range of parameters available for any generic use in forecasting required further considerations. It was observed that though the parameters varied greatly there was some relationship with the pattern of the hyetograph whether forward, central or backward concentrated. A basis for the choice of the most likely model that will be suitable in estimating the peak amount of short-term runoff was considered. The parameters produced by a backward concentration rainstorm were generally on the high side and its use with other rainstorms yielded peaks usually not an underestimation of the observed. It is the purpose of this identification process to come out with characteristics of the rainfall-flow relationship and their effects on the high peak runoff responses. This characteristics and its behavior on the model will greatly enhance its adaptation for application. - Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Challenging Exploratory Research, Nagasaki University, 01 Apr. 2014 - 31 Mar. 2017Evaluation of aquifer structure and groundwater flow by using surface temperature dataIn this study, thermal transport experiments and numerical simulations were performed to test the proposed method to investigate heterogeneous groundwater flow and hydro-geological structure by the use of thermal imaging of the soil surface. The results of the study clearly showed that the thermal distribution of the soil surface is affected by subsurface impermeable obstacles. However, when a thinner cover was present, it was simple to determine the distribution of the obstacles and the groundwater flow path. Numerical simulation with obstacles could be used to reproduce the experimental results of thermal transport by using parameters determined with the simulation without obstacles.

Point dilution tests were performed as tracer tests in the field to investigate the vertical distribution of groundwater characteristics and spatial-temporal distribution of groundwater chemistry. The results showed that it was practically impossible to use the tracer test in the field. However, coprostanol did show potential to indicate the source of nitrate pollution in groundwater. Further research will be done to prove this method.

- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Kanazawa University, 2007 - 2009Developing reliable methods for the design of the immobilization of heavy metals in soil : for the application to heterogeneous systems.We summarized the effects of pH, coexisting substances, etc. on the adsorption of arsenic on the adsorbent, schwertmannite, with surface complex model. We found that in the heterogeneous water distribution, diffusive efflux of pollutants obeys power law with the exponent ranging from minus 1.0 to minus 0.5, whereas in regular systems the exponent is fixed to minus 0.5. In addition, we validated the effectiveness of barrier system for immobilization with laboratory experiments. We successfully constructed several sub-models for the design of immobilization in heterogeneous polluted sites.
