- Abstract A multi‐agent consensus protocol is investigated over noisy undirected connected graphs. It is supposed that each agent can know her neighbors' states with bounded noise. A theoretical stopping rule having a probabilistic guarantee is established for the consensus protocol, which explicitly relates the number of iterations with the closeness of the agreement. The stopping rule is derived by utilizing Bernstein inequality that deals with a given noise bound explicitly. The sample complexity with respect to the number of agents is also investigated, where it is shown that the number of iterations required by the proposed stopping rule based on the bound of noise itself is generally smaller than that of the conventional stopping rules that utilize bound of noise variance. The results are demonstrated through numerical examples.Wiley, Aug. 2022, Asian Journal of Control, 25(2) (2), 651 - 661, English[Refereed]Scientific journal

- A chance constrained AC optimal power flow is to find the optimal economic operation plan whose probability satisfying AC power flow equations and various inequality constraints on operating limits of the power system is greater than a specified probability level. Even if a constraint condition for each uncertain power supply value is convex with respect to decision variables, the chance constrained problem is not convex in general. Thus, it is difficult to solve the problem within reasonable computational time. Employment of randomization techniques for this issue is proposed in this paper. A main advantage of the framework leads to a solution with a theoretical guarantee. Its sample complexities are of polynomial order for parameters of a given accuracy. The efficiency of this algorithm is demonstrated by applying it to the Japanese power system models. The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, Jul. 2017, SICE Journal of Control, Measurement, and System Integration, 10(4) (4), 303 - 309, English[Refereed]Scientific journal

A multi-agent system over noisy undirected networks with linear symmetric agents is considered. A stochastic consensus algorithm is established and analyzed under the noisy environment. An explicit relation between the number of iterations and the closeness of the agreement is also established. The results are illustrated through a numerical example.

- This paper proposes a distributed multi-agent optimization protocol to minimize the average of objective functions of the agents in the network with satisfying equality and inequality constraints of each agent. The exact penalty method is adopted to obtain a linear distributed optimization protocol. The proposed protocol works only with the decision variables and does not need any additional variables. The proof of the consensus and convergence of the proposed protocol is provided as well as the boundedness under mild assumptions. The protocol is also illustrated by a numerical example. The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, Oct. 2016, SICE Journal of Control, Measurement, and System Integration, 9(4) (4), 186 - 186, English[Refereed]Scientific journal

- This paper deals with a consensus problem for directed two-layered networks in which dynamics of agents are driven by topologies on both cooperative and competitive graphs. A distributed algorithm for exchanging information between agents in the networks is introduced, where the communication noises are taken into account. A sufficient condition for the proposed algorithm to achieve the socalled ε-averaging consensus, i.e., system state gets arbitrarily close to the average value of agents' states with desired high probability, is shown. A rigorous stopping rule for the algorithm is also derived. It is shown that all the agents' states converge to the average value of the initial states when the modeling parameters are chosen appropriately.Institute of Systems, Control and Information Engineers, Dec. 2015, Transactions of the Institute of Systems, Control and Information Engineers, 28(12) (12), 476 - 483, English[Refereed]Scientific journal

- This paper deals with a consensus problem for multiagent networks with noise-corrupted measurements. The networks are assumed to have antagonistic interactions that represent a kind of competition between agents. The objective of this paper is to find a condition under which global consensus on the states of the agents is achieved. In particular, a rigorous stopping rule is derived for the consensus algorithm. It gives a certain number of updates so that all of the states get close to the average value of them within a specified tolerance and with a specified probability. The ISCIE Symposium on Stochastic Systems Theory and Its Applications, May 2015, Proceedings of the 46th International Symposium on Stochastic Systems Theory and Its Applications, 2015, 85 - 90, English[Refereed]International conference proceedings

- In this paper, we propose a gain scheduled reference governor for control of systems with constraints on the state and/or input variables. We use the reference governor with outer feedback constructed via model following control method. We apply this control scheme to design of long seek control of hard disk drives. To achieve short seek time for long seek distance problems, we consider gain scheduling with the reference governor. With keeping the continuity of input, the control system switches feedback gains according to the location of the state. Moreover, we examine the usefulness of the proposed method by applying it to benchmark problems of hard disk drive control. The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, Sep. 2013, 計測自動制御学会論文集, 49(9) (9), 832 - 839, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal

- This paper considers local stability analysis of nonlinear systems with deriving a positively invariant set based on the Rantzer's stability theory by using density functions. We define a notion of locally defined density functions around an equilibrium that give monotonously increasing positive measures near the equilibrium of a nonlinear system. Under certain assumptions, it is shown that some level set of a locally defined density function is a positively invariant set where almost all of the system trajectories converge to the equilibrium. We also mention an SOS (sum-of-squares) formulation for synthesis of a nonlinear gain via locally defined density functions.Lead, The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, 2010, SICE Journal of Control, Measurement, and System Integration, 3(6) (6), 424 - 428, English[Refereed]Scientific journal

- This paper proposes a method to design gain-scheduled controllers by using LMIs that depend on filtered scheduling parameters. This avoids the drawback of previous results that require differentiation of scheduling parameters. Moreover, with small damping time of the filter, our gain-scheduled controllers recover performance of those previous unimplementable controllers that need accurate derivative of parameters. The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, Sep. 2009, Transactions of the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, 45(9) (9), 469 - 475, Japanese[Refereed]

- This paper is concerned with analysis of positive invariance and regional almost convergence of nonlinear systems by using density functions. It is shown that if there exists a density function that is positive inside a set and zero on its boundary then the set is positively invariant and almost all of the trajectories starting from the set are convergent. This result is applicable to controller synthesis for nonlinear systems by using convex optimization with satisfying state and input constraints. Furthermore, converse theorems are provided to ensure the existence of such density functions under mild assumptions.THE INSTITUTE OF SYSTEMS, CONTROL AND INFORMATION ENGINEERS (ISCIE), Dec. 2006, Transactions of the Institute of Systems, Control and Information Engineers, 19(12) (12), 453 - 461, Japanese[Refereed]

- This paper is concerned with a synthesis method of gain-scheduling controllers with utilizing descriptor representations and its application to design of flight vehicle control. By representing a linear parameter-varying plant in a descriptor form, parameter-dependent LMIs to seek a gain-scheduling controller are formulated so that the LMIs have simple structure with respect to the parameter. A gain-scheduling controller is computed directly via an explicit formula in terms of the variable of LMIs for descriptor LPV systems. This synthesis procedure is applied to design of a flight vehicle control with large variation of dynamics and multiple control specifications. It is shown that the obtained gain-scheduling controller attains all the specifications and control performance is improved by employing parameter-dependent Lyapunov matrices. The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, 2005, Transactions of the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, 41(1) (1), 53 - 60, Japanese[Refereed]

- This paper proposes a generalized KYP-type matrix inequality that provides a necessary and sufficient condition of dissipativity of descriptor systems. While known bounded or positive-real inequalities are only valid for descriptor systems with particular realization of them, the proposed inequality condition is independent of the realization of descriptor systems. Thus the new inequality is used for analysis of descriptor systems with freely selected realization. Further, the proposed inequality is applicable not only to bounded and positive-realness but to dissipativity with respect to supply rates given by an arbitrary quadratic form of the input and the output. The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, Aug. 2004, Transactions of the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, 40(8) (8), 867 - 869, English[Refereed]Scientific journal

- This paper is concerned with an approach to design of output-feedback gain-scheduling controllers via solving LMIs, based on descriptor representation of linear parameter varying (LPV) systems. Algebraic constraints of the descriptor form can reduce a state space LPV model with complex functions of scheduling parameters to a descriptor LPV model with simplified functions of the parameters. By change-of-variables technique, LMI conditions are derived for design of output feedback gain-scheduling controllers for descriptor LPV systems. - This paper is concerned with stabilization of implicit systems via interconnection. Stability of implicit systems is defined so that every solution in the sense of Impulsive-Smooth Behavior is impulseless and convergent. Preservation of the initial values of the implicit system (initial-freedom preservation) through interconnection is adopted as a formulation of regularity of interconnection. In order to analyze stabilization with initial-freedom preservation, we define notions of complete-stabilizability and zero-detectability that generalize stabilizability and detectability of state space systems. It is shown that stabilizability via, interconnection with initial-freedom preservation is equivalent to complete-stabilizability and zero-detectability. Thus standard results on output feedback stabilization of state-space systems are extended to stabilization of implicit systems via interconnection. Further, we provide criteria for each of complete-stabilizability and zero-detectability in terms of the Kronecker form, Lyapunov equation and inequality, rank and invertibility of the system pencil. The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, Jun. 2003, Transactions of the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, 39(6) (6), 544 - 551, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal

- This paper is concerned with stability analysis of switched systems and its application for synthesis problems. For a class of switched systems, we propose a discontinuous Lyapunov-like function to derive a condition that guarantees exponential stability of switched systems. - In this paper, the issue of constructing piecewise linear Lyapunov functions (PWLLF) for stability analysis of nonlinear systems satisfying generalized sector conditions is addressed. The existence condition of PWLLF is represented by a linear programming problem (LP in brief). If the optimal value of the LP is negative, then PWLLF is constructed by using the optimal solution of it. When the optimal value of the LP is nonnegative, the candidate of PWLLF is modified with additional freedom and a new LP is formulated corresponding to the new PWLLF candidiate. It is shown that the optimal value of the resulting new LP is always less than or equal to that of the old LP. The main purpose of this paper is to propose a fast method to solve LPs which appear repeatedly in constructing PWLLF. The method is based on a kind of sensitivity analysis approach of LP and utilizes the special structure of LPs that appears in constructing PWLLF.THE INSTITUTE OF SYSTEMS, CONTROL AND INFORMATION ENGINEERS (ISCIE), Aug. 2001, Transactions of the Institute of Systems, Control and Information Engineers, 14(8) (8), 402 - 408, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal

- In this paper, we propose a numerical solution to a class of parameter-dependent convex differential inequalities (PDCDIs), including parameter-dependent LMIs formulated in analysis and synthesis of control systems based on linear parameter varying system representations. To solve such inequality problems involving infinite inequalities corresponding to the values of the parameter, we provide a procedure to derive from a given PDCDI a finite set of inequalities that can be formed to be solvable whenever the PDCDI is solvable, and from any solution to the derived finite set of inequalities a solution to the PDCDI is obtained. Numerical examples for a parameter-dependent LMI are provided to examine the proposed numerical solution. The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, 2000, 計測自動制御学会論文集, 36(3) (3), 248 - 254, English[Refereed]Scientific journal

- In this paper, we consider a design problem of robust nonlinear servosystems which can achieve asymptotic tracking for constant reference inputs. The problem setting in this paper is a little bit different from the usual one. We suppose that the reference input will change from r to r* at time t = 0 and that the initial state of the system is located in a neighborhood of the equilibrium corresponding to the reference input r. Under this setting, we consider a design problem of robust nonlinear servosystems : we consider an augment system including the integrator, design a state feedback gain for the augment system using LMI, and give an input r (t) interpolating r and r* so that the state moves the prescribed regions depending r (t) and consequently the output converges to r*.THE INSTITUTE OF SYSTEMS, CONTROL AND INFORMATION ENGINEERS (ISCIE), Nov. 1999, Transactions of the Institute of Systems, Control and Information Engineers, 12(11) (11), 671 - 679, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal

Based on the descriptor-form representations of LPV (linear parameter varying) -systems, this paper proposes an approach to gain-scheduling controller synthesis. - This paper proposes a design method of robust servosystems. The plant we consider is assumed to have structured uncertainties which are represented by matrix polytopes in the state space equation. We construct the control system as follows. First, we quadratically stabilize the control system containing a integral compensator and guarantee to track a constant reference signal. Next, closed-loop poles are clustered robustly in a specified region. Further, we give an upper bound of tracking errors of controlled output and control input in L2 norm sense and minimize it subject to the uncertainties. To construct a compensator, we parametrize stabilizing compensators and reduce the above design problem to a convex optimization on the parameter space. The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, Sep. 1994, Transactions of the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, 30(9) (9), 1051 - 1059, Japanese[Refereed]Scientific journal

In particular, the exactness verification method is generalized for robust optimization problems with function variables. An asymptotically exact method is developed for robust optimization problems with non-polynomial parameter dependence.

Development of CAD system for robust controllers design of linear systems. We developed a CAD system for robust controllers design of linear systems using value sets. For systems, which have completely decomposable, transfer functions and/or characteristic equations, the method using polygon interval arithmetic is very useful to compute value sets. We proposed and implemented a method computing value sets of multi-polynomial functions, which need not be completely decomposable. 2. Generation of piecewise linear Ly apunov functions. We proposed a new class of piecewise linear Lyapunov functions (PLLFs) and derived stability results. A candidate of PLLF has parameters corresponding to hyperplanes intersecting stability region. The set of stability conditions are formulated as Linear Programming Problem (LP) in terms of parameters inserted by the hyperplanes. If the computed optimal value is negative, we construct a PWLLF using the solution. When the optimal value of the LP is nonnegative, we modify the PWLLF candidate by adding appropriate hyperplanes to introduce more freedom in the LP formulation and arrive at the desired result. The optimal value of the resulting new LP is always less than or equal to that of the old LP. We also proposed a scheme to generate hyperplanes such that the optimal value of the new LPs is less than that of the old LP. Moreover, we propose a fast method to compute the optimal solution of the new LP. 3. Data structure for Euclidean cell complex. We proposed and implemented data structure for Euclidean cell complex. We used this data structure in programs for generation of PLLFs and will be used for controller design using PLLFs 4. Solution method of bilinear optimization problems. The main issue in designing controllers using PLLFs is to solve bilinear optimization problems, which is non-convex problems, and, hence, it is not so easy to solve. But we believe that the problem rather easy to solve that bilinear matrix inequality problems. We proposed a method using Zoutendijk method. We implement this method, but further research is needed to improve convergence of the method.

A new parametric identification algorithm based on the Wiener model is derived by using both subspace method and model parameter optimization. The identification result shows that the Wiener model is superior to a linear model in capturing the dynamics of nonlinear system. An EKF-based controller for proposed Wiener model is designed and implemented subject to the assumption that an identified Wiener model is completely controllable and observable. The numerical example demonstrates the validity of both proposed identification algorithm and control design. Next, we applied the algorithms to the temperature control of rapid thermal process in semiconductor manufactory. The identification experiment was designed with respect to the desired temperature range in The RTP system. The parameter of Wiener, model was then estimated from input-output data Based on obtained wiener model, the controller was designed to achieve the desired temperature response. The control experiment was performed to verify our control design and the results shows that the con roller is capable of steering the dynamic response and thermal uniformity across a wafer over a wide operating envelope. We also improved the control system with respect to the case that the model parameter is varying slowly. A robust observer based on the sliding mode technique was attempted. The other advantage to use sliding mode observers is to avoid online calculation of Riccati equation, which- saves the calculation cost in the control system. The development of the algorithm for fault detection has been studied at the same pace with system identification and control design. An online identification algorithm based on the wiener model was developed for capturing the model parameter variance. Then by using singular value decomposition technique, we obtain the slow variation of model inner character. A standard for system fault has been established for robust control system.

- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), KOBE UNIVERSITY, 1997 - 1998Computer Aided Design of Robust Control Systems Using Polygon Interval ArithmeticThe main results obtained through the research are summarized as follows. 1. Value sets estimate for functions which have no totally decomposable expression. We consider a problem to compute good estimate of value sets when a given analytic function f(p) has no totally decomposable expression, where each parameter p1 of p belongs to a polygon, and showed that the boundary of the value set of f is included by the image of edges of polygons. Using this result, we proposed two methods to compute estimates of value sets. One is for the functions which are given by the ratio of affine functions of p. The other is for the functions which are multi-affine functions of p. 2. Development of CAD system for robust control systems. We developed a CAD system which design PID controllers, lead compensators, lag compensators and 2 degree of freedom PID controllers, which satisfy several robust performances. This system compute value sets of plants using NPIA and feasible regions of parameters of controllers using operations on sets (union, intersection and difference set). Since it computes feasible regions, it gives global optimum solution even if optimization problems are not convex. 3. Stability analysis of nonlinear systems. We analyze stability of Lur'e systems which have uncertainties in not only for the nonlinear part but also the linear part. Value sets of transfer function corresponding to the linear part are computed using NPIA and stability is analyzed applying Popov criterion.
