• 13世紀後半北イタリア都市間関係史の動的構築-河川交通・紛争・秩序

  本年度は、『イタリア史のフロンティア』（昭和堂、近刊予定）に掲載予定の論文「川が結ぶ北イタリアー中世のポー川と都市間交渉』を執筆した。ここでは、都市コムーネ台頭以前～都市コムーネ成立期のポー川の通行について、先行研究をいくつか概観し、その後、1177年のポー川をめぐるフェッラーラとロンバルディア同盟諸都市及びヴェネツィアとの協約を詳しく紹介した。またその協約後、ヴェネツィアがポー川に進出していく様子を概観し、ポー川の通行をめぐる1307年のヴェネツィアとパルマの交渉を詳しく見ることで、ヴェネツィアがポー川の中流域まで影響力を伸ばしてきていることを述べた。ポー川の河川交通の実態は未だ体系的に明らかにされておらず、断片的な情報の提供にとどまっているが、都市コムーネ成立期以前から14世紀前半までを概観することで、河川通行をめぐる政治主体の相互交渉や変遷について、一定の見通しを得ることができた。また、その作業と並行して、13世紀前半の、ヴェネツィア、クレモナ、フェッラーラ、マントヴァ間のポー川の通行にあ関係する協約を刊行史料より抜粋してまとめた。これらの結果は「川が結ぶ北イタリアー中世のポー川と都市間交渉』に生かすことはできなかったが、ポー川を巡って様々な都市間で独自に協約が結ばれている様が明らかになった。


• Conflicts , order and fluvial trade in medieval northern part of Italy

  This project examined the relationship between fluvial trade and conflicts or order of the region, focusing on the hinterland of Venice in the Middle Ages. Specifically, I analyzed a pact between Venice and Cremona regarding the free and safe passage of the Po river, and also the relationship between Venice and Bassano via the Brenta river. I also invited the three Italian professors in order to obtain an overview of the relationship between rivers and cities. The following things are verified: in the Veneto region, fluvial trade played an important role; the Communes of the Veneto region in the 12th century fought each other for the river traffic; the maintenance of fluvial trade was important not only for Venice but also for other riverside cities in the hinterland: thus the demand for the safe fluvial trade could sometimes mitigate conflicts between cities

  23 scholars and some collaborators from Europe studied the various communication process in empire, kingdoms, principalities, cities and city states, local communities, and ecclesiastical organization in late medieval and early modern Europe from comparative viewpoint, focusing on conflicts and conflict resolutions. These studies covered almost all the parts of Europe, and clarified that such communication process was correlated with the integration and order of the concerned polities and communities. The conception of communication in this research project refers to various interactive behavior, such as negotiation for settlement, ritual and symbolic performance for making consensus in the court of princes and building collective identity in the public space of the city.


• Identities of nobility in medieval Italy: the case of Venice

  The nobility of Venice has long been defined as the hereditary members of the Great Council, and their particularity has been stressed.The recent studies, however, pointed that in the other Italian cities, the city-nobles of the 12th and 13th century were military- political elites. A close examination of the sources revealed that this common character could be observed also for Venetian nobility. Moreover, the Serrata, a series of legislations considered as the turning point for forming the noble status, is also viewed as a response to the common problem of other cities, that is how the emerging institutions confront the kinship ties.

  We revealed three points in 'comparative history of masculinities'. (1)'History of masculinities' is a field of gender history and to be distinguished from 'history of men'. It plays an important role to lead 'gender mainstream in history'. (2)'Masculinity' has various meanings and is not necessarily the property of men. Discrimination between'hegemonic and subordinated masculinity 'depends on the age and society. (3) Concept of 'homosexuality' appeared in 19^ century and private monosexual relationships often determined the personal ties in the public sphere(political, economic and military).

  アメリカ文学におけるますキュリニティー研究の成果を摂取しながら、日本史・東洋史、西洋史における母 - 息子関係の比較研究を行った。2006年度に3回、2007年度に5回、2008年度に1回の研究会と合宿発表会を持ち、それぞれの研究成果を発表して討論を行った。2008年には「家長権をめぐる<母>機能の比較史」というタイトルで比較家族史学会に於いてミニシンポジウムを行った。

• Port cities in the European History

  The aim of this project is to portray Europe as a cross-road and integration of multiple civilizations through the historical examination of international port cities. Project members believe such portrait presents a model for the 21^st-century multicultural society. Project members have conducted research works both in Japan and abroad to investigate the European port cities from the ancient age to the modern times, focusing not only on the commercial relations but also on the social relations. As a result of their investigation, it is made clear that port cities played the role as an intersection of the trade and they were, and still are consisted of higher rates of foreign residents. These factors give port cities multicultural facet and their characteristically urban topography. During the research term, several international conferences were held and attended by foreign scholars specialized in maritime and sea port cities studies. These conferences resulted in productive discussions and the establishment of the academic contacts with each other. During the historians' conference at Chuzan University in Kanjun, China, Head investigator, Atsushi Otsuru suggested an idea for international comparative studies of sea port cities regarding their historical role of nurturing the multicultural society. A series of books on the history of sea port cities, co-edited by Katumi Fukasawa, were published, along with numerous books and articles published by project members.


• 中世ヴェネツィアにおける市民の家産管理と都市国家の財政

  今年度はまず、昨年度収集した約50通の遺言書史料を分析し、データベース化した。それによると13世紀初は遺言書自体の数が少ないということもあるが、やはりサン・マルコ財務官は初期は不動産管理などの仕事はほとんど請け負っていないこと、13世紀前半は市民の遺言書に不動産を代々子孫に残そうと言う意図はあまり見られないということがはっきりした。また同時に、13世紀前半において家産の流れを規制していた法史料を綿密に検討したところ、ヴェネツィアでは相続や嫁資に対する女性の権利が比較的強いこと、不動産売買に関して独自の手続きを採用しているがわかった。そこでサン・マルコ財務官の発展と市民の家産管理の変化の関係を13世紀を通して考察する前段階として、まず13世紀前半のヴェネツィア社会と家産の流れを規制する法との関連について考察した。その結果、女性の法的地位の高さや財産権の大きさ、親族の権利を保護しながらも不動産市場の迅速化をめざしたヴェネツィア独自の不動産売買の諸手続、といったヴェネツィア都市法の特徴は、13世紀前半の海外発展やそれにともなう商人層の台頭・経済活動の活発化と重要な関係にある、ということが明らかになった。この内容は論文にまとめ『西洋史学』に投稿して採用決定、年末に入稿し現在印刷中である。当初の目的であるサン・マルコ財務官の発展と家産の関係についても来年度中に活字にする予定。
