- Long-term water quality data with high temporal resolution, together with hydrological data, are essential in developing hydrogeochemical and diffuse pollution modeling. An in situ flow injection potentiometry (FIP) system to monitor the stream water quality (chloride, sodium and potassium) every 15 minutes for two weeks was developed and tested in the laboratory and in a small forested catchment in Gozyo City, Nara Prefecture, Japan. The system resolves main hurdles that prevent long-term monitoring, except the problem of samples freezing in winter. Frequent calibration with three standards was adopted to compensate for the temperature dependency of ion-selective electrodes. The results of monitoring stream water quality in this catchment in 2004 showed clear differences in the concentration of the ions of chloride, potassium, and sodium depending on discharge: chloride showed the simple washout of accumulated atmospheric input, potassium implied the washout from the stock in the shallow soil layer, and sodium indicated the effect of ion exchange and chemical weathering.THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF HYDROLOGY AND WATER RESOURCES, 2006, Journal of Japan Society of Hydrology & Water Resources, 9・6・445-457(6) (6), 445 - 457, English[Refereed]Scientific journal

- The Nearest-Neighbor (NN) method, which is originally one of the statistical pattern recognition methods, is also very useful for time series forecasting. In the runoff forecasting using the NN method, some past rainfall-runoff events that are the most similar to the current event are selected, and then the next flow is estimated as the sample average of successive flows to these similar events. In this study, we apply the NN method to the real-time runoff forecasting using lead-time of 1-day, 2-day and 3-day in the Yodo River basin and then investigate some practical application techniques of the NN method. Results show that the accuracy of 1-day ahead forecasting is very good in spite of its simplicity. The relationship between length of data periods and forecasting errors indicates that about 10 years data period is required for reliable forecasting. - 本研究では、全国13地区の農地造成流域とそれに近接する山林流域の水文観測資料(農林水産省)を対象として、直接流出量の推定に広く用いられているCN(Curve Number)法を適用し、各流域の直接流出特性をCN値によって表すとともに、CN値と各流域において実施されている冠水型浸入能試験の結果を対比し、直接流出特性と流域表層土壌の浸入能との関係について考察した。その結果、13地区のうち10地区で、山林流域の方が農地造成流域よりもCN値が小さくなる(直接流出量が小さくなる)こと、農地造成流域と山林流域のいずれにおいても、流域表層土壌の浸入能が大きいほど、洪水時の総直接流出量が小さくなる傾向がある程度は見られるが、浸入能-直接流出量関係のばらつきはかなり大きく、浸入能に基づいて直接流出量の変化の程度を定量的に見積もることはかなり難しいことが分かった。THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF HYDROLOGY AND WATER RESOURCES, 2006, 応用水文(農業土木学会水文・水環境研究部会誌), 19・88-97, 14 - 14, JapaneseOthers
