We performed the qualitative comparative analysis to test which interaction among founding team characteristics and other management resources affect the short-term initial public offerings (IPOs). We used data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), 65 university-launched ventures with IPO. We found three causal pathways for achieving IPO rapidly from establishment. The first pathway is founded by experienced top management personnel and the filing of patent applications. The second pathway is a student-founded company with patent applications and university VC raised fund. And the third is a founding team of researchers and management personnel with university VC raised fund. This research contributed to imprinting theory by investigating the relationship of achieving IPO from establishment quickly and the combination of founding team and the other management resources of university-launched ventures in Japan. In addition, practical implications were presented for VCs and support organizations regarding the composition of the founding team and the nature of support for achieving IPO rapidly.

Since 2000, there has been increasing attention in both research and practice to exceptional individuals who can achieve much higher performance than the average person in organizations. The purpose of this study is to conduct an integrative literature review of star employee research and to identify the current research achievements and problems. In this study, we first critically examine several variations of the definition of “star” and determine the definition we adopt. In addition, we will discuss the novelties or advantages of research focusing on stars from the following three points: (1) focusing on the fact that the individual in question achieves significantly higher results than others, (2) focusing on high visibility, and (3) assuming that the shape of the distribution regarding the dispersion of abilities, characteristics, and achievements of individuals in the organization is a powerlaw distribution rather than a normal distribution. Then, using Coleman (1990)'s bathtub model, we classify existing star employee researchers that have been accumulated so far into five categories: impact of star on focal organization, impact on colleagues, mobility or portability of stars status, treatment of stars and fairness within organization, and star formation. Finally, after clarifying the achievements and challenges of existing researches, we clarify what developments this research topic will bring to organizational behavior research and human resource management theory in general.

The purpose of this study was to identify the process and elements of decision-making for holding the pre-training camp for the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Korea. Pre-training camps were held in Japan prior to Pyeongchang 2018 Games. The target area was Bifuka-town in Hokkaido, which actively has promoted Freestyle skiing, Aerial skiing. Data were collected through semi-structural interviews with the National coaches in Canada, Swiss, Belarus, and Japan. A content analysis was conducted. The results revealed the process of decision-making continuum Desire, Association, Comparison & Examination, Action, and Re-visit. We also found the elements were Facilities and equipment, Regional factor, Practice and training condition, Daily-life condition, and Environment in host community. Compared to usual sport camps, Regional factors such as traveling gap and time differences were considered as unique in selecting the pre-training camp place.
