Abstract To investigate the relationship between paleoenvironmental changes and marine reservoir effects, the radiocarbon ages of marine bioclasts and terrestrial plants from the same horizons of a sediment core in the Holocene Epoch were measured. This core, with a length of approximately 9 m, was obtained from the southern part of the Miyazaki Plain southeast of Kyushu Island, which faces the Kuroshio warm current. This drilling site is located in an uplift area associated with the subduction of the Philippine Sea Plate. Based on analyses of lithology, molluscan and foraminifera assemblages, and radiocarbon dating, we interpreted four sedimentary units in order of age: tidal flat, inner bay, Kikai-Akahoya volcanic ash, and delta plain. These paleoenvironmental changes were mainly associated with the sea-level rise during the deglacial period. The reservoir ages of nine pairs from the tidal flat to inner bay facies were found to be from the time span of 7300–8200 cal BP. - Benthic-planktonic foraminiferal radiocarbon age differences in deep-sea sediments are a useful paleo-proxy to estimate deep-water ventilation age from the last glacial maximum to the Holocene. However, it is very difficult to collect reasonable sediment cores for ventilation age reconstruction in the carbonate-corrosive Pacific Ocean. The Shatsky Rise, which is located in the central part of the North Pacific, is a peculiar spot in that carbonate sediments can be collected from abyssal depths. We analyzed benthic-planktonic foraminiferal radiocarbon age differences in two gravity core samples (Core NGC102 and Core NGC108) collected from the Shatsky Rise. The two cores consisted mostly of bioturbated calcareous ooze. Sedimentation rates were 1.4-5.3cm/ka in Core NGC102 (2,612m water depth) and 2.3-6.6cm/ka in Core NGC108 (3,390m water depth). Benthic-planktonic foraminiferal age differences showed large variances, from 7,010±90 to 180±130 years in Core NGC102 and from 2,730±80 to 580±110 years in Core NGC108. In Core NGC102, the age differences (6,440 years on average) in the mixed layer were approximately 4,700 years older than the modern North Pacific deep-water age, reflecting the upward mixing of old benthic foraminifera and low sedimentation rates. On the other hand, the age difference (2,470 years) at 14-16cm depth may be approximately similar to the past deep-water age at that time. The age differences (180±130 to 280±140 years) at 22-28cm depths (16-17 ka, corresponding to Heinrich stadial event 1) were remarkably smaller than the modern deep-water age. In Core NGC108, the benthic-planktonic age difference (990±200 years) at 15,700 cal BP was estimated to be 760 years younger than the modern deep-water age. - 兵庫県西部を流れる千種川は清流として知られる一方, しばしば大雨による河川氾濫が発生している. 2016年まで, 災害防止の目的で河川整備工事が行われたが, 工事による河川環境の変化や河川生態系への影響が懸念されている. 本研究では千種川の水循環や人為改変の環境影響評価の研究に必要な基礎データを得ることを目的として, 2015年8月9日に採取された河川水試料83点について, 水の水素・酸素同位体比を分析した.分析の結果は地理情報システム(GIS)により流域地図にマッピングした. 結果として, 千種川流域では, 水素・酸素同位体比ともに上流部で低い値を示し, 主要支流の佐用川や, 千種川下流に流入する支流では高い値を示した. また, 上流~中流では高度効果の影響を受けた降水の寄与がみられており, 千種川流域全体で蒸発の影響が大きいことが推測される.神戸大学大学院人間発達環境学研究科, Sep. 2017, 神戸大学大学院人間発達環境学研究科紀要, 11(1) (1), 105 - 109, Japanese[Refereed]Research institution

- Tephra is a geologically synchronous key bed that can be used to connect depositional environments ranging from terrestrial, through coastal, shallow, and deep marine, to trench. Therefore, tephra represents a uniquely important link between the geological records of terrestrial and marine settings. An understanding of the local marine reservoir effect (ΔR) is important when calibrating radiocarbon dates obtained from marine materials with calendar dates, and when correlating geological and paleoenviron-mental events across different locations. Comparison of radiocarbon dates obtained from a tephra layer deposited on marine (planktonic foraminifera) and terrestrial (buried tree trunks) materials indicates that a local marine reservoir correction of around 830 y must be applied to dates obtained for the last deglacial period from the offshore area near Sanriku, in the western NW Pacific.日本第四紀学会, Aug. 2013, The Quaternary Research, 52(4) (4), 127 - 137, English[Refereed]Scientific journal

- Planktonic foraminiferal assemblage provides the information about water mass properties. We investigate the fossil foraminiferal fauna using factor analysis to reconstruct the changes in water masses and the outflow/inflow timing of the Oyashio and Tsugaru currents across the Tsugaru Strait off Shimokita (41°33.9'N, 141°52.1'E) in the northwestern North Pacific over the last 26,900 years. In the study area, the Oyashio Current affected both surface and subsurface (below the pycnocline) waters during 26.9-15.7 thousand calendar years before present (cal. kyr BP). Vertical mixing and subsurface warming resulted from the flow of the Oyashio Current into the Japan Sea around 15.7-10.6 cal. kyr BP. The Tsugaru Current started to enter into the Pacific about 11.2-10.6 cal. kyr BP and formed two water masses condition of the surface layer under the influence of the Tsugaru and the subsurface layers of the Oyashio Current during 10.6-9.0 cal. kyr BP. The increasing of inflow of the Tsushima/Tsugaru Current enforced surface layer warming and the stratification of water column. Finally, the subsurface layer started to warm at 6.2 cal. kyr BP. - Benthic foraminiferal (BF) assemblages in core MD01-2409 collected from a water depth of 975m off Shimokita Peninsula were investigated to reconstruct bottom water oxygenation changes around north Japan during the last deglaciation. Abundance changes in dominant taxa indicate centennial changes in dissolved oxygen condition on the seafloor. The BF assemblages were classified into three groups : oxic, suboxic, and dysoxic taxa. - Benthic foraminifera in two cores, ST-5 and ST-21, collected from the Oyashio area show paleoenvironmental changes during the last 20, 000 years. Benthic foraminif eral fauna from both cores exhibit large changes during the last glacial-Holocene transition. Glacial fauna of core ST-5 closely resemble modern fauna living around a depth of 2, 000m under the confluence zone between the Kuroshio and Oyashio currents. This indicates that glacial paleoenvironments off Erimo Cape were similar to recent deep-water conditions under the confluence zone. However, Holocene fauna of core ST-5 show that carbonate dissolution has intensified in depths near 2, 000m. Glacial fauna of core ST-21 demonstrate that intermediate waters that originated from the northern North Pacific had intensified around a depth of 1, 000m. Especially a response of benthic foraminiferal assemblages to climate change was investigated over the past 60,000 years from marine sediments. The subarctic North Pacific climate from 60,000 to 20,000 years ago was cold, unlike the present warm environment, and was the last glacial period when huge ice sheets grew and collapsed repeatedly in North America. Benthic foraminifera has inhabited the seafloor around a depth of 1000m, where they were under the influence of cold mid-depth water with a temperature of 4°C or lower. Although this depth is currently covered with a minimum dissolved oxygen layer, it is clear that oxygen-depletion events during the last glacial period were repeated with interstadial events on a scale of several millennia.

This suggests that the lower limit of oxygen minimum zone (OMZ) was shallower than 2700m through the Cenozoic period in the area of the east equator Pacific Ocean. Based on the Os isotope ratios of the Neogene manganese oxides from Tohoku district, the OMZ in the Northwestern Pacific may have developed more than several m.y. through Neogene.

- 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 奨励研究(A), 筑波大学, 2000 - 2001最終氷期の北西太平洋における環境変動の解明親潮域における最終氷期以降の環境変動を明らかにするために北海道南方沖の漸深海帯から採取されたピストンコア中の底生有孔虫群集を研究した.本研究で使用したコアは,東京大学の研究船淡青丸のKT90-9次航海で採取されたST-21コアである. 最終氷期から完新世にかけて4つの底生有孔虫群集が確認されている.最終氷期の底生有孔虫群集は,Epistominella pacificaの産出により特徴づけられる.この種は日本より北方の寒流系中層水域の特徴種といえる.したがって,この種の産出は,北方起源の中層水が最終氷期に強化されたことを反映している可能性がある.完新世前期の群集は,現在の親潮中層水域の群集と類似する.したがって,この時期に現在のような中層環境の成立が始まったものと推定される.現在の親潮域では,溶存酸素極小層が水深500〜1,800m付近に位置している.さらに,この群集は,貧酸素指標種を多く含んでいる.したがって,この期間は過去16,400年間で溶存酸素量が最も低かったと推定される.完新世中期になると,E.batialeのみが80%近くを占める単純な群集へと変化している.この群集の特徴から推定される海底環境は,現在の親潮域の水深2,000m付近の海底環境に近い可能性がある.完新世後期の群集は,現在の釧路沖の中層水域の現世群集と類似する.したがって,完新世後期には再び低酸素を特徴とする親潮中層水環境が存在したと推定される.
